New Thinmodem user

I just bought a Thinmodem from CompUSA. I am having problems with the Browse-It program. Casn any one help me. I can't find any on-line guide on how to use it. Every time I try a way to use it it gives me a connection error. Is the best way to go, switching to Blazer? Are there any other programs to try?

Also as for mil, Is the Mulitmail the only program? I don't need (I think) all the bells and whistles that it features. Are there anyu decent freeware programs?

Thanks

For both mail and browsing, you can try the freeware Eudora Internet Suite. AvantGo can also be used as a browser.

Browse-It is no more. Puma Tech, the company that makes the software, no longer has the server up and running. Browse-It therefore no longer works. Even when it was running, the server seemed to be down more often than up. I would estimate that I was only able to use Browse-It 50% of the time that I tried. The story about Puma Tech pulling the plug on its non-corporate consumers is here.

I too recommend Eudora as a free solution for browsing. It doesn't handle the graphics and doesn't look as pretty as Browse-It, but it is free and it seemed significantly faster than Browse-It. I have not had any experience with Blazer.

With regard to email, I use MultiMail because of its ability to handle attachments. I kept getting errors with One-Touch email that comes with the ThinModem Plus. A lot of people like it and got it to work, however. I never could. Again, Eudora is free and I know a lot of people on these boards really like it. I have not tried it.

Handsprings page for the Blazer says it needs OS 3.5 buy it also says you can use it with the thinmodem. Is this for the very few devises tha have OS3.5 that would use the Thinmodem? It may be time for me to get the Pro. I will try the Eudora first.

I use Blazer 2.0 on my VDx with both a Thinmodem and a Digital Link... it works fine. I think Handspring's 3.5 requirement is for browsing in color.

I just found the "thick" modem 33.6 by handspring at Staples, for only $28! I upgraded my version of avantgo and got the free Eudora Internet Suite. They both work great. The Eudora browser does not display pictures, but I do not want to slow a 33.6modem by displaying pictures. E mail is good, so is the browser(Eudora) avantgo displays pictures (those channels that have or allow them) Also, I find that I refresh my avantgo content quicker, more effecient with my visor modem than through my computer hot sync.

Thanks for the tip Mark Eagle
