VisorPhone software

I am one of those who have been in the OmniSky beta test in the UK and Europe who have been left high and dry by the discontinuation of the OS service as of this Friday. Many of us are struggling to find out how to be able to continue to use the VisorPhone with an ordinary ISP. Neither OS nor Handspring are offering any help, so we need the users to help us get going. What I want to know is what software is necessary to run the VisorPhone. We can get email apps or browsers (Eudora for example) but there must be some apps needed for the basic operation of these such as a dialer or protocol settings etc. So I wonder is anyone who has the VisorPhone directly from Handspring could at least list out what the essential parts are? Even better would be to have access to them which really should be provided by Handspring.

Everything you need built-in.

Everything I needed to connect to the web came with my VP - once I had activated my Cingular Data Services.
- I just hit Prefs/Network & the connect button to dial my ISP. Once I connect, I use the Blazer app included with the VP to get to the web.
- I'm just now starting to play with the Eudora Suite & it sems to work fine as well. This is my only experience w. 3rd-party software.

The applications listed on the module are:
Address
Card Setup
CardSerial Library
GSM Library
Phone
Phonebook
SMS
On the Beam Application screen, Card Setup does not appear. Phone, Phonebook and SMS are copy protected. CardSerial Library and GSM Library each show two copies, one copy is beam-able (unprotected).

What I've done is go into the options of Browse It and set my network to my ISP connect and it auto dials. The problem comes when you switch on the Visorphone and the Omnisky dialler overwrites the settings and I'm not sure if I should delete it or not.

On another point apparently (according to Omnisky) the Visorphone will only work on BT Cellnet or Vodafone networks as Orange and 1 to 1 are 1800 Mhz.

Yeah, fun and games, indeed. so far its all games, but no fun.
I cannot connect to my normal ISP using a BT Cellnet SIM in the VisorPhone, even though I did manage, somehow, to get it to dial the right number, not OmniSky.
Judging from the above there are certainly some bits of software that one needs for the VisorPhone to make it work on the internet, apart from the obvious browser and email client. I hope I get what is needed from Handspring, but still have my doubts. Someone said that there was some basis internet software on the Palm web site, but I couldn't find it. but I am sure that we will sort this out eventually. It's a tough life being a pioneer, isn't it?

Thanks for that tip. I'll check into it, but I think the SIM is data enabled since I have used it with the Ericksson R320S phone and it's IR modem. Plus it's a WAP phone that does work. So data should not be a problem. I suspect it's at the ISP. but i'll keep on plugging.

Just a thought but my BT Cellnet sim is data enabled as it was for a WAP service, maybe thats the problem.

I certainly have no additional software and am dialling from prefs->network->connect then starting a browser or email program.

Pioneer or donkey thats what I'm asking myself, still I seem to have some functionality out of my Visorphone, its just a shame Omnisky didn't make contingency plans for its customers.
