Question

Sorry for posting yet another hotsync topic, but here's my problem: I got my VDX yesterday, and when trying to connect the cradle to my computer, the computer did not automatically detect a new hardware device. I tried the Add New Hardware program from the Control Panel which came up with a suggestion called USB Root Hub. When trying to install this, I get the following device status; "The NTKERN.vxd device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (Code 2)." I have not been able to update the driver, and really don't know what to do.
Sois this a cradle problem or is my computer acting strange here as well?

Chris

Cool

What version of NT are you running. NT 4 does not support USB at all. Win2K needs the new Desktop software.

See this thread for a link to the new desktop software.

I think USB support is mangled on your machine. You might want to check Microsoft's knowledgebase for possible solutions . . .

I had the same problem when I first got my computer with Windows 98. I am not an expert but: Check your settings, click on system, click on device manager, click on USB controllers, then click each one individually and check if it says "this device is working properly". If it says that, it is probably not your USB connection. I had to call Handspring support and they walked me through the fix. I can't remember what exactly they had me do, but they had me get rid of a file, then try hot-synching, and it worked, and that re-created that file correctly on the computer. Anyway, the people at handspring were excellent and it worked right away. Please give them a try.

Talking

Problem solved, I just managed to Hotsync for the first time! After spending two days restarting the PC countless times after it crashed and talking to Handspring support (they were nice, but wanted me to send in the cradle for replacement)and the Dell and Microsoft Helpdesks, I finally got the fix from a bright person at Microsofts Scandinavian Helpdesk. It had something to do with changing some of the USB-files...(don't ask what I excactly did...) Anyway, it works now and I'm finally able to download those apps...
Thanks for your ideas!

Chris
