Network HotSync problem following a network backup

Does anyone have experience using the Network HotSync? My VPL works great using LAN HotSync as long as my PC is logged on, as soon as our network is backed up (which occurs nightly), my computer's network connection is broken and my IBM Thinkpad 390 with Linksys ethernet card is not automatically reconnected. This prevents me from using the Network HotSync while I am travelling. I'm not sure how to resolve this one, my IT guy said that perhaps a script is in order?

Any ideas?
