PDA suggestions for gift
By: Satman @ 06:00 AM
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what PDA/palm I should buy for a friend as a gift. I don't think she'll want a phone on the PDA. Just a standalone PDA that is able to surf the web and check email pop3 etc.. Also read word, excel, etc.. keyboard would be nice..
Would a sony clie be good? Maybe a palm 7? any suggestions? I'm looking to spend around $300...
Thanks!

Check out the new Ipaqs -the 4155 and the 4355. Just standalone PDAs, but loaded with software and wireless connections, and the 4355 has a keyboard, though it is pretty big because it's attached to a big screen.

You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

I'm not sure I understand, are you looking for a wireless PDA or just a regular disconnected one that you can occasionally hook up via BT or wifi?
If you want a pda with integrated wifi, I would have to recommend either the Tungsten C or Axim X3i. Both are pretty cheap these days (~$360 for the TC and $340 for the X3i after rebate). Both are solid, have SD slots and superb battery lives. The h4155/h4355 also both have wifi and BT, but are kinda pricey IMO. If you don't plan on using BT, I would skip these. Then of course there is the Clie UX50, which is a dual wireless, keyboard, and camera device. That's a great device for wifi browsing but still too expensive even with the recent price cuts IMO...
If your friend plans on connecting to the web via BT, then I would recommend either the T3, Zodiac, h2215, or h1945. The first two have gorgeous high rez+ screen while the h2215 also has a CF slot and the h1945 has a great form factor. If it were me, I'ld get either get the Zodiac (since I don't mind the gaming aspect) or the h2215...
If you just want a plan simple no frills pda w/o any wirless, then I'ld recommend the Tungsten E which is a very solid package...
