Is there any way?

I've been tempted to try out some different Visor models and the Sony SL10 (just to see if the screen is really better).

However, when I read that in order to try the Sony SL10, I'd have to uninstall my current software first, I had to take a pass. That would be ridiculous just to try it out.

Also, I'm interested to know if this is the case with trying out different Visor models.

I started with a Deluxe. When I went to a Neo, I installed the new software and cradle. Could no longer use the Deluxe. However, the Platinum (an identical twin to the Neo) is no problem and I can use them interchangeably.

But ... what about other Visor models? The issue, and my questions, seem to boil down to software and cradle compatability.

I seems nuts to have to uinstall stuff just to try something out. It is as if, once you set up one model/brand you're committed to it.

Is there any (sort of) simple answer or am I opening up a can of worms here?

Are you talking about the desktop software? Uninstalling it leaves your info, which gets imported when you re-install.
