Lightbulb

I was wondering why is there such a push for a color edge? The concept doesn't make any sense because if you use the edge you lose springboard. Then there is no reason to buy HS. Without a the springboard slot there is no expandability and you may as well buy a palm Vx.

I think the problem with people buying the prism is that it is too bulky. Handspring should simply redesign the prism so that it is more comparable with the Vdx (or a little smaller). At the same time they could add features like Sony and Handera.

I think that this would make a great addition to HS's line. Call it the Prism II. --- Color, Screen resolution, jog dial, and SPRINGBOARD. What a combination!

The Edge DOES accept modules by utilizing the detachable Springboard expansion slot.

I know that but using the expansion sled you lose the most 2 of the most important parts of the edge: size and the screen cover. This essentially make it impossible to keep a module in all the time. (like visorphone and memory)

I'm sorry if this wasn't clear in my original post.

One more thing...

I heard someone on these boards suggest that HS should add a memory expansion only slot in addition to the springboard. If they did that then we would really have a killer PDA.

I agree completely, a separate memory expansion slot would be great. At the same time, Palm would have no advantage over Handspring anymore.

Or memory that utilizes the edge's current slot.

The biggest problem with (IMHO) the Edge is lack of internal storage. This is one big advantage of the m500 over the Edge.

Add-on memory is something that you want access to all of the time, and as jdogg already posted, if you use the Edge connector/SpringBoard adaptor, you lose the best features of the Edge. Even a small, custom memory card hanging off of the back would be too large and ugly.

HS needs to add a small memory expansion port. The biggest problem with adding a port is space. I suspect that if there ws mach free space inside, they would have made the Edge smaller or put in a smaller battery.

Or they could develop memory that utlizes the edge's current connector (which wouldn't sacrifice form, nor would they piss R&D away on a device that's already been done). HS has bigger fish to fry - the Cli comes to mind.

Oh, you aren't kidding. If HS doesn't have something nearing the end of development and ready for announcement (& production), they're going to get hammered on the high end!

Clie

Don't get me wrong, I truly love my Visor Deluxe, but the color Clie is really a sight to behold.

I had the opportunity to line up all of the color Palm OS machines at the store this weekend. Several things were really surprising. First, the M505 display really sucked. I mean, worse than the IIIC. Second, the display on the Prism was just that good. Really nice and bright. Third, the display on the Clie was outstanding, despite the slim form factor. Hey Handspring, remember what you said about waiting for displays to improve before coming up with a color Edge, well there it is!

So, my wishlist: Clie color screen, Handera Grafitti system and a Springboard slot. Sure, chicks may dig the form factor of the M505 or Edge, but I still like the old Palm III form. The Edge's Springboard system is a little on the clunky side for me.

C'mon, Handspring! I know you have it in you. After all, if little Handera can do what it did, it can't be too hard to add decent color and a Springboard socket to it.

My check is in the mail
