Angry

Will we ever get any substantial apps with 16-bit support other than Zap!2016 and the Handspring Photo Album?

How about a 16-bit adaptation of TealPaint, a few more 16-bit games (like an RPG) and a photo importer that can display full screen/scrollable pics instead of the cropped nonsense we get with Handspring's Album?

I paid $450 for 16-bit color and I'd like to be able to use it.

As an early adopter, we will suffer. :-)

Color is the future and we are there now.

Be patient. You are on the cutting edge. It's a narrow place. The more Prism owners who get there will help grind down the edge, making room for color applications. All it takes is time. Gravity and erosion are on your side.

With 16-bit color, video clips, and wireless Internet, I think it's more "bleeding edge".

Well, Palm will have 16-bit color (supposedly compatible with the way the Visor does it) in Palm OS 4.0 later this year, at which point I think most programs will support it.

As for viewing, check out Album to Go from clubphoto.com. It's free. No scrolling, but it does support 16-bit color, and it doesn't waste part of the screen like Handspring's viewer does.

Palm OS 4.0 should be hitting the streets by March. In fact, Palm will be unveiling their new hardware and software at CeBit. Once Palm devices start shipping with 16bit color displays (the color Palm V is destined to be a hot item), you can expect a growing avalanche of developers porting their app/games to full color.

Keep your pants on!

Arrow you are dreaming

Those eagerly waiting for PalmOS 4.0 to help the availability of 16-bit color apps for Prism may be severely disappointed. What makes you think apps written specifically for OS 4.0 will work with OS 3.5 at all?

The PalmSource sessions where they discussed how to properly check for 16-bit color, etc. If you check out the slides on PalmSource.com, there are sessions where they discuss just this issue.

Reading the PalmSource presentations, unless an application is absolutely based around the Internet, Telephony, or expansion card support added in OS 4.0, there's no reason not to code it for 3.0 and above.

And those slides confirm that the OS 4.0 16-bit support uses the same operating system calls that Handspring uses in the Prism.

Why would a developer NOT want their 16-bit apps to work on the Visor Prism as well?

Yeah. That would be as dumb as a developer creating a springboard that didn't work with a vdx or solo.

Say foo, can you point to me toward the info on the color Palm V? I've tried to hunt down something official but have come up empty-handed. Thanks!

Only if Handspring releases a patch. And then it will take up some of your ram.
