Well, I just took possesion of a SpringPort (ordered from Egghead, which delivered in two days to me in Louisville, KY), and I've been tearing my hair out in frustration for most of the day over trying to download email. I'm using this on a new Visor Platinum.
I'm able to connect with my ISP (via what I think are standard POP3 settings), it handshakes fine, goes through the "Checking Messages" routine with the status bar showing the number of waiting messages (say, 30) -- but as soon as it moves to "Getting Messages," the entire system hangs, won't respond to screen taps, and finally issues a timeout error messages. I've tried every combination of settings that I can think of, but nothing results in messages actually being downloaded into the Visor.
My batteries are fresh, but the version of Multimail SE installed is only 1.0. Could this be a software issue, something with my POP3 configuration I'm not aware of, or simply a bad modem which needs to be swapped out?
BTW, how do you change parity settings on the Xircom? I'm going to need to call into an office machine that requires Even parity, and I can't seem to find the right submenu for this. It _does_ exist, doesn't it?
many thanks in advance...
