Thought I'd get us started off:

Atom Smash 1.1s - "GLDB, Line:0, Not enough memory to run"

FireViewer 3.7.1 - Got a "Fatal Exception" when trying to beam it over, but surprisingly it worked after the reset.

PopMe! - Screen captures with 16-bit images come out all fuzzy, but doesn't crash (yet).

TealPaint - results in "MemoryMgr.c, Line:4450, Invalid chunk ptr" error when returning to app after screen capture of 16-bit images. Need to delete the grabbed screen image ("GRB" in Z'Catalog) before it will work again. Also delete the "imported image" from TealPaint or you will get the same error when trying to view them (the bad ones will have "colors: 0" when you look at the image details.

Please post any other incompatabilites you find. Hope some of these issues get resolved quickly, especially Atom Smash, which is a great game on a color device!

1 - Astroids GS, the new color one works fine, though.

2 - Race Fever demo, maybe the full release will be ok, but I'm not spending $25 to find out.

Exclamation

one of our apps, The Finger is NOT compatible with the Prism... please do not install, it'll send your Prism (maybe platinum, too) into a crash cycle of HELL.

we'll post something on our website today about it.

Not a true incompatibility issue but might help someone upgrading to color:
Action Names Datebook - be sure to install the color icons. The B&W will create a soft reset requirement if you attempt to view any of the calendar screens.

I not had any other problems.

Avantgo in color

Just another note...if you already use AvantGo with your Visor Deluxe and want to get it to work in color with your Prism, you have to uninstall and reinstall both on your handheld and your desktop (well, at least *I* had to do this to get it to work). To test if it really works, use the MapBlast channel to download a map -- there is a picklist that lets you select black&white, greyscale, or color maps.

LauncherIII

LauncherIII put my Prism in a reset cycle whenever I would hit "Home". I had to asign a button to "Application", then deleted it.

Tetris also crashed.

Sebis.

Post Fitaly stamp...must use Fitaly "c" version

If you use Fitaly, you must use the "c" version...Otherwise, the info/settings key and the numeric pad key do not work. Although the keyboard is functional, keyboard settings are not. So changes like keyboard position, numeric/punctuation toggle cannot be made.

Post Jot 1.0 and the Prism

A known problem with Jot (version 1.0) and the Palm OS 3.5. To reproduce the problem, go to the 'Memo Pad' application and start writing on the screen. Your Pen strokes do actually show up on the screen, you will see them as speckles in the area of the title bar. Additionally you may notice that the 'Mode Marker' (the triangle) is not showing up on the screen. These are known issues that surfaced with Palm OS 3.3 (and later) and are not due to any known problem with the Prism.

I called CIC (http://www.cic.com) and was informed that Jot has not yet been tested on the Prism, but that the problem that I reported was a Palm OS issue that surfaced in Palm OS 3.3.

I was told that the latest version (1.2.1) fixed that problem and added some additional functionality. Since I purchased Jot (version 1.0) from CIC, they were more than happy to e-mail the update to me.

I just installed it and it works fine. So I would recommend calling them (or e-mailing them at: [email protected]) and ask them how to obtain the 1.2.1 update.

When they send you the update, make sure that you follow these steps to Install the new version.

  • Disable JOT (uncheck the "Enable Jot" box)
  • Delete Jot from the Prism (1 file)
  • Soft reset your Prism to clear the memory
  • Install the new version of Jot (Hot Sync)

Hope this helps.

Cool

Battery Meter Hack has no effect.
(No Streak Hack and Menu Hack are not needed in OS 3.5h)

The following just show blank screens:
Mah Jongg
Star Chart

Dragon's Bane: be sure you have version 1.14
Galactic Realms: be sure you have version 2.2

Compass (sun compass) draws the circle as a series of four tiny circles across the top of the screen (which often happens when a program draws a 1 bit image directly to a multiple-bit screen)

Images saved in Diddle are similarly mangled.

Pocket Shogi: be sure you have v1.3.1

RsrcEdit: be sure you have version 1.014

HackMaster has distorted + and ? buttons for Palm OS 3.5. It works fine otherwise.

Post Update on Atom Smash and other Red Mercury Apps

I just got this e-mail from Red Mercury:

Red Mercury is happy to inform you that Atom Smash, AcidFreecell, and Xmas2k now function properly on the new Handspring Visor Prism.

The latest versions are available from Red Mercury using the links below:

Atom Smash 1.1v:
ftp://red-mercury.com/palmos/AtomSmash/ASmash.zip

AcidFreecell 1.6v:
ftp://red-mercury.com/palmos/AcidFreecell/AcidFree.zip

Xmas2k 1.0v:
ftp://red-mercury.com/palmos/Xmas2k/Xmas2k.zip

We have heard from our testers that our games are running slow on the Prism as compared to the IIIc. We are still working on a solution for this problem.

Enjoy,

Just checked RsrcEdit v1.014 09/07/00
Had no problem with the bitmap editor.
I had it show a bitmap from RushHour.

Should I try something else?

Cheers,

rick

Just a quick update. The StayOffHack developer and I are working towards a fix. I'll shoot him a ROM copy as soon as I receive a serial cradle.

PocketShogi v1.3.1 works fine on my Prism (available at Masaaki Takemae's homepage)

Launch'Em 3.0b8 is functional, but if you set it to 256 colors, go into any app, then go back to LE, the Tab labels & borders and Program Labels are gone. Bottom of the screen where Plug-Ins reside remains in tact. It lets you determine background color and tab color, but I haven't gotten it to do it consistently. I already reported this to Synergy Solutions, Inc.

Unhappy

EVEdit v2.2(Hack version, I haven't tried PlugBase) has been causing crashes when editing in Memo Pad and launching Handspring Photo Album.

Or, perhaps I should say, I've had crashes in Memo Pad and Handspring Photo Album when EVEdit has been enabled. Disabling the hack has eliminated the crashes.

I'm having problems with all of my springboard modules:

my Xircom SpringPort modem module crashes my machine every time I remove it from my Prism I get a fatal exception with the only option being to reset.

I did happen to discover something, though: when the SpringPort module is plugged into the Prism, IT CHARGES THE BATTERY! That could come in handy should one be away from the charger for any length of time, and all you would need are three fresh batteries! I tried it on three separate occasions today, and it worked every time!

The same thing happens with my MiniJam and my Minstrel S. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone know if it's an issue with the Prism or am I not doing something right?

Any comments are welcome.
