YES -- I'm doing it!

Ok, NOW I WANT ONE TOO!!!!! I am SOOOOO waiting for this module!!!

I got about a dozen things to do with it..

I also hope the "backup" function properly backs up "ALL" the files on the Visor, in particular the "SyncAddressDB", "SyncDatebookDB", "SyncMailDB", "SyncMemoDB", "SyncToDoDB" databases on the Visor, I use the EasySync notes conduit and the handspring backup module does not properly back these files up, the result, when I restore from a hard reset with the backup module, all my mail, addresses, todos, and memos are corrupted, I have to manually back these files up after using the backup module to my Minstrel S flash ram via the Minstrel File Mover. I really hope I no longer have to do this.. (here's hoping)

Any idea on release dates?

You'd need to transfer them to the Visor first. I'm not sure you'd really want to do this. My camera generates very large JPEG files for each picture, much too large to email nicely.

I don't think you want the MemPlug for the viewer. (I haven't seen it in color.) There are far better reasons make this purchase. You can make out the image and it is in 16 shades of grey with contrast control on all the B&W Visors. The JPEG image is automatically scaled down by 8 in both width and height. The decoded image would be display within 160x120 pixel of the screen. The maximum resolution support is 2560x1920. There is no scrolling or zooming. No thumbnails. Smaller images are still divided by eight and so are displayed smaller than the full screen. I'm sure that will change real soon.

Not sure about the TIFF, I haven't checked yet. The viewer is "halfway" decent. I hope the other "half" is coming soon. This is a wonderful backup device. You can imagine all the advantages. Middle of March is the "official" word I have. Good luck

I put the word in quotes because I found my experience with this device different than any other beta test I've taken part in. The hardware is ready for market. The software was a delight to discover. We gave feedback regarding minor preferences, but none of the usual "HELP, I keep crashing and can't figure out why!"

Check out the following for great pics (and commentary in Korean.)

I put my name on their pre-order list and asked them a couple of questions by email a while back.

Doc moving

What I need is a large memory drive (CF or SM) that I can store several large texts on. The reader can stay in RAM if needed. The problem with the current situation is that these are all so large that moving them back and forth as a single file takes a long time. I may not have the minutes to wait for the info. We should encourage someone to develop a doc reader that will pull the file in off of the CF card while you read.

I agree completely with the expressed sentiment. That's why I did ask whether somebody could modify the Axxpac version of Cspotrun to read doc files from the smartmedia card. The source code for this is:
http://www.ams-fl.com/axxpac/downlo...p0p5_axxpac.zip
The Axxpac is a smartmedia card reader for the PalmIII line of Palms, which is being discontinued.

Thumbs up

The exact date has not been announced yet, but the email I recieved from Portable Innovations says they will be updating their website on 3/5/01, and that the module will be available by the middle of March. The only thing that the module is missing that is currently reflected on their website is the unattended automated backups. A small thing to miss, and probably better that it isn't their considering how low some of our batteries can get after a couple of hours playing Zap and SimCity. Another thing about the backup - the backup routing backs up EVERYTHING in the Visors memory, including locked files, so there is not worry about losing data files that are usually not backed up by a hotsync.

James, if you would like me to write a full review, just drop me a line and I can get it to you before release of the module. My testing of the module has been alot more intensive than many (at least according to the emails I have recieved in thanks from the company), and as the manager of a large tech support team, I can tell you that I also have fully researched the integration of this module into the daily workings of alot of our support staff. Imagine being able to get critical company data back from employee's daily when they leave, and then having a bank of smart-media adapters in the server room updating the information for support staff at night to be returned to them the next morning when they log on. My guys are already drooling ;-)

Question Name that price?

Sounds great! I was about to order the Match when I saw thed announcement. Their site references Palmgear which doesn't list it.

How much does it cost and where can I get one?

Thanks --- you lucky beta tester you!

Yes,
Cspotrun with memplug support is in its beta already, and has pass to our beta testers to collect feedback.

All PalmDoc (pdb format) will be directly access through Memplug's File System API.

Your Visor will no longer fill up by doc., place them on SmartMedia. And bring your private library with you on your smartmedia card.

The reader will be available to download free of charge once it is stable.

How do the movies look?

I think you just sold me on this product with the text viewer app! I was all set to buy a CF adapter and then I read this thread. Look forward to using the MemPlug!

Thumbs up About Memplug's movie player.

The movie player is excellent, which is also directly access the SmartMedia Card through Memplug's file API, (For details spec, and want to join memplug's development? Pls sign up www.memplug.com devleoper's section)

I have a 12MB color movie resides on my SmartMedia card, and view it with my prism.

The movie player is developed by 3rd party and bundled with Memplug as a bonus application. Only the coverter will cost you about $US30.

But Memplug only cost you less than $US50 and bundle with full version of the converter.
Our company's mission is to provide affortable module for all our users.

For the doc. reader, it would be available for download later in Memplug's webpage.
