Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a PDA, but here's the thing:
I need a PDA that would allow me to download and read e-books ..as well as listen to MP3's. I'm not sure how much memory is required for this, or battery power. Also, I am thinking of getting a Mac, so it would be nice if the PDA is Mac compatible. The Visor looks very appealing, but will it be able to handle what I want?

PS. Wireless modem would be a great addition,
I know the Visor has a module for a normal modem..wonder if anyone knows if wireless is in the future perhaps?

Peanut Press is releasing Springboard modules that can hold around 10 books on each. Befreo long, there should be a high availability of e-books. As far as downloading them and putting them on the visor, I am not sure. Eventually that probably will be quite common. As for now.........anyone know?

Downloading ebooks is straightforward with the current Palms. So doing the same with Visor will be a no brainer too...

E-books are no problem. There are a ton of books in the public domain (the memoware reference above). A great free reader is RichReaderFreeware (PalmGearHQ). The size is much smaller than I expected. The entire "Thinking in Java" book fits in less than 1M. This is significant since the book is 1071 pages long.

For an MP3 player you will have to wait for the springboard.

"Tons" of ebooks? Given the weight of electrons, I suspect that would be more books than the library of Congress.

Seriously, though, PeanutPress's selection is kinda limited -- a few dozen books, maybe.

I've bought a couple of titles from them, and reading an entire book on a little Palm screen is doable if not ideal, but they really don't have much that I'm interested in. And some of the interesting stuff that they do have, I'd rather have in a form that I can loan out.

I wonder if they should look into carrying more out-of-print material -- stuff you just can't get at stores.

Putting little mini-libraries on Springboard modules has some potential, but Star Trek collections? Ugh.
