Question

I have a HP Laserjet 5P on my desk and noticed that it has an IR receiver. How do I print from my Visor Deluxe to my HP Printer? Is it even possible?

I tried to beam a memo and noticed the light flashing on the printer ir port but not a thing happened other than that (not too surprising).

thx

Smile

I've been able to print in HP IR enable Printers 5P,6P,etc.using palmprint. Check it out at http://www.stevenscreek.com.

It does not have that much functionality though. I want something that can be integrated with other visor built-in apps. Hope this helps.

MultiMail has a built-in printer function which I've used to print my e-mails to an HP 2100. It came in very handy when the e-mail sever in my office was down and I was able to retrieve and print out peoples' e-mail.

I think you need a program called IR printsuite or something like that...

I've seen a (former) collegue use it and it was pretty impressive!

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Thumbs up PalmPrint

The suggestion to check out http://www.stevenscreek.com for PalmPrint was the answer I needed. This package works like a charm to print what I need.

Thanks for the help.

You could also check out JetSend from HP. It's free and allows easy printing of addresses, clipboard, datebook, memos, screen shots etc. It also includes JetReceive (that I've not used) that supposedly allows simplified beaming from one palm device to another.

Unhappy

I tried Jetsend before and didn't like it that much for a myriad of reasons. One is the Size, it changed the settings of my buttons.... though I can disable it but I think it's a hassle. It was annoying. Well, that's my opinion.

You can try it if you want though.

Does anyone have any info on the 5p printers, or any printers that hae IR ports. My last printer was a HP 4 plus (died about 2 months ago) and I need to get a new before school starts. Now that I heard about this I really want to get something compatible with my Visor.
When I looked at the HP site it didn't give any info about buying a new 5p printer. Only support for people who have already bought them.

Cool From Handspring

Third party software such is required to print from the IR port. Two examples are IrPrint and PalmPrint. Handspring does not support these programs, nor does it recommend any particular vendor; the examples of IR printing software listed below are merely illustrative examples of how some power users apply their Visor.

See IrPrint at http://www.iscomplete.com

See PalmPrint at http://www.stevenscreek.com/pilot/palmprint.shtml

Note: Handspring does not support Enhanced IR software.

The Visor does not support enhanced IR at this time. The .prc files that are included in the Enhanced IR package are known to cause errors when loaded onto a Visor. It is strongly recommended that you do not install the files. If you have installed the files, you will need to perform a HotSync operation to synchronize your data then perform a hard reset to completely remove all of the .prc files that have been installed.

Thank you,
Handspring Technical Support

I looked for it too and didn't find it. I downloaded it from HP something like 2-3 months ago. I did find this page http://jetsend.hp.com/jstrategy.html that may give the reason that it is apparently no longer available. HP is heading for other technology including Bluetooth.

lbdyck, are you with handspring or did they send you this info?

I understood that the visor was only incompatible with part of the IR enhancement.. see the ISComplete website:
"Can HandSpring Visor works with 3Com's IR Enhanced Update ?

No, it will lock up your device totally. But, by using IrLink v1.5 in conjunction with one file, SerIrCommLib.prc from the update, it will work flawlessly."

Thanks for the pointer to the HP information. It is sad they have pulled or discontinued the IR printing support.

No - I do not work for Handspring. I was posting the answer I received from them when I asked their tech support e-mail staff.
