I've been using very successfully my VDX, the Minstrel S modem and the YY service. I travel up and down I95 between Philly and DC it in most spots it works very well. My one problem is that I prefer the Eudora 2.0 mail program over the version that's written to the modem's memory. Without the modem installed I can use the 2.0 version. When I put the modem in the slot it forces the modem's version onto the launcher. At one point I had gotten the system to recognize only the 2.0 version even with the modem installed. But a crash required a hard reset and now I can't get it back the way I liked it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS. One trick I use with Eudora to speed checking and sending mail is to use the IP address and not the name of the mail servers. This saves some time over doing a DNS lookup.

I had the same issue. Download YY's new version 3.1. It contains a flash updater [it's about 1MB on your Visor, but you can delete it after use] that will wipe out Eudora 1.1 and replace it with YY's software - allowing you to load Eudora 2.0.

Minstrel S and Eudora

Thanks for the info. I checked the YY site but they are now saying that the 3.1 upgrade for the Visor is still being worked. Obviously the problems reported elsewhere on VC caused them to retract and do some bug fixing.

The site still shows the download as being available. Try this: http://www.yadayada.com/desktop/dow...adaYadaPalm.exe

Here's how I handle the same issue. I use the Launch 'Em interface for my VDX, which sorts programs into different folders or "tabs." I keep Eudora 2.0 and Eudora Web 2.0 in a tab called Online.

Launch 'Em also has a feature called Default DB Placement, which automatically files new programs and databases based on the file Type and Creator. I've set mine up so that every time I insert my Minstrel, it automatically drops the built-in Eudora 1.0 and Eudora Web 1.0 in a tab called Unused.

With the two different versions of Eudora filed in separate tabs, I've never had a problem launching the 2.0 versions.

The main advantage of Eudora 2.0 over 1.0 is that it handles multiple e-mail accounts. Lots of e-mail clients do that, but I've never found one that filters mail as well as Eudora. And Eudora Web is the easiest and fastest browser I've found for text. I don't really see the need to view images on my Visor.
