When i put in a springboard with its own apps, i catagorized the apps into one of my catagories. when i took the springboard out and put it back in, the apps are in 'unfiled' again. This may be a dumb question, but since a DB file is saved on my visor from the springboard, (even after i remove it) shouldn't it also remember which catagory i put the app in?

Hoser_in_USA,

Do you use a launcher such as silver screen, if so, this will occur. I had silver screen on my visor and the same thing happened to me. When I removed silver screen, all of my apps were properly categorized (including apps that are on springboard modules).

Hi Hoser...

I do this regularly with my MiniJam. I have a category called MiniJam that I created with the MJ not plugged in, and put an app in there that I hardly ever access (in my case that's Mobilink for Avantgo).

Then I inserted the MJ, and moved all apps (except filemover) to the MiniJam directory. I can then take the module out, and replace it without re-categorizing everything. They go back to where they previously resided.

I used to have the problem you are describing with a few different 3rd party launchers. Are you using Launch'em or Launcher? I think those are the ones I had problems with.

i am using Silverscreen, however, i can move the apps off the springboard and onto my visor. That way they'll be there even after i take the module out! that way when i insert the module, it should keep the apps in the directory i specify. Now, i wonder if i can move those apps off the module...it comes with 'filemover' and the apps are listed as being on the module....are they permanently there? will i ruin the module if i move them to my visor and out of some freak incindent don't back up the files and have to hard reset my visor, thus not having a copy of the files and they won't exist on the module anymore???

Do springboard manufacturers safe-guard against this by not allowing you to move files from their springboard that actually control what the module does????

I know that I can copy springboard specific programs to my visor memory, but it will not let me move them there (or run them there). I'd assume that this would be the standard for all springboards, because of the circumstance you described.

BTW. you might want to try the Palm standard app launcher to see if it is Silverscreen causing the problem.

NO! I love my Silverscreen. I'd rather slide down a razorblade into a pool of vinegar than not use Silverscreen! ....actually, maybe not. But i'd rather just have the apps in 'Unfiled' than not use silverscreen!

Arrow

I haven't seen yet a 3rd party launcher that saves module categories. Using the standard launcher, I have a "Module" category that I keep all module stuff in. Category info is saved properly.

Until the standard Launcher III works in OS 3.5 right, I'm sticking with the standard launcher.

I'm definitely with you there, James. I've tried a bunch on my Prism, but they are simply too big, and do much more than I want them to. I used to use Launcher III on the 'ole Vdx, but it doesn't work on the Prism yet. So, I'll give it a too.

LaunchEm has a menu feature called Default DB Placement. All you have to do is identify the "type" and "creator" of the files in your module, and it will automatically file them in the category you want. I do it with the files in my Minstrel S, and it works every time.
