Question Some newbie MiniJam questions

I'm a little confused about the MMC cards that the MiniJam uses.

Are these the same thing as SmartMedia?

I'm thinking of getting the MiniJam without memory for $69. If it does indeed take SmartMedia cards then a 64Mb card is pretty cheap.

MMC cards

I believe a MMC card is different than a Smart media card.

FWIW, I purchased a 64 meg MMC card from www.newegg.com for around $50.00 for my minijam and it works fine.

They are two totaly different cards, you want to look for MultiMedia Cards (MMC). They are much smaller and hence, more expensive. You can pretty much buy any brand of mmc, just make sure you format it (priproritery...i cant even pronounce this word let alone spell it) It's they type of format, It's the equivilant of windows fat format.

MiniJam uses MMC Only!

You can only use an MMC Card in a MiniJam. Actually 2 of them can be used.

You can't use SD (Secure Digital), CF (Compact Flash), SM (Smart Media), or any other cards.

Yes the MiniJam uses a propietary file format, but it is not the same as a windows fat file format. It's completely proprietary and called MJFS or MJFAT, it used to be called IGFS or IGFAT. So you do have to re-format any MMC cards you buy to be used in the MiniJam.

Oh i meant it for a comparison of the type of format, like windows uses it's specific format and minijam its own.

At InnoGear's MiniJam website it states that "Not only does MiniJam let you download and play skip free MP3 music, it even includes a photo album for your digital
pictures and an e-book player so..."

Does the reference to the e-book player mean that it supports the audio files from Audio.com?

Also, can you use the MiniJam without a Visor?

Rock,
You can;t use the minijam with out the visor, there's no companion for it's power and such. There is no audible funtcion either. When i bought my minijam i was hoping for it as well b/c i have to "read" Return of the Native. I just spent 10 bux oin the audible book of it. But the minijam doesn;'t support AA (AudibleAuio) files.

If you could find a converter....

If you could find a program to convert Audible Files to MP3's you could put the book on the MiniJam.

Unfortunatly I think that Audible is trying their damdest to prevent this in order protect their books from copyright infringement.

LeaDxPainT: Audible has a File player for your PC. Listening to the book on your PC will at least make the purchase useable.
