Question

I was wondering if anyone has seen the stowaway for the visor in stores, or know where it is avalivble. I am trying to decide if it would be quicker to order it online or get it in retail.

Thanks

I talked to a "red shirt" at Staples (Hollywood) I overhead evangelizing the Visor to a customer (who wound up buying it ). He not only knew what the Stowaway was but he told me that keyboards were on order and would be in "any day," whatever that means -- and the eyemodule as well. I'm going back tonight to follow up.

i think staples gets a truck on saturdays, so I'm hoping they'll be on this next shipment (though i am stopping there after work today!)

BTW is anyone else worried they're going to break their stowaway opening and closing it over and over again? I just think it's so damn cool!

ps anyone else notice the discounts online for them? in the range of $85, so about 15 discount

Wink

They MUST be in stores, cuz I bought one TODAY!

CompUSA - Long Beach. Neither the website or their local computer inventory had it in stock (or even in the system for that matter), but as I was passing by the PDA display, I happened to see them in the glass cage. None on display. $99. It's a freaky piece of hardware. Reminds me of a Transformer.

Anyway, don't take the store reps word for it when they say they don't have it.

Ditto,
Got mine at the compusa in Alexandria Va. took the people an hour to find it, and many denials that they even had it. a snippet of the conversation

Me: Yeah i need an item SKU 274337.
Salesguy: Sure, let's see we have 10.
Me: Great I'll take one.
(wait a few minutes, as they look, cuz if i'd already found one i wouldn't be asking for help)
Salesguy:We don't have that here.
Me:Then why does the computer say you do? Is it often that the computer and the hotline says you have something and you don't?
Salesguy:It does that all the time, buy it from the website (even though it's not listed there!)

And that point a manager sticks his head in, because he turned me over to the salesguy. It still took an hour and like 4 people to find the unopened targus box.

Neat keyboard though, so damn cool. I agree about the transformer thing.

Cool

Thanks mxgian!

I went to the Alexandria, VA CompUSA this morning and picked one up for myself. The salesmen still don't know they have it, but I searched around myself and found a stack of about 5 in the glass case below the Visor's. Several people including the cashier asked me what it was, and seemed very interested. Word of warning, the initial seating of the unit in the keyboard was tricky (as others have posted) but some forceful delicacy got it done. The 2nd time was much easier.

Happy Hunting!

Question

Wanted to see if any of the Indianapolis-area Visor owners have had any luck finding the Stowaway in stores? I've checked Best Buy, Staples, and CompUSA around the Castleton Areas (&96th) & haven't had any luck. Thanks -

Angry

I called the hotline and talked to the rep. Sure enough, he said there were two Stowaways at the Indy Castleton Store. So I head over there, wait thirty minutes while they search, and noone can come up with one. They guy said he has no idea where they are and apparently no one else does either!! Seems like a strange way to sell a product....

Talking

One last post - They finally found it!! After calling the hotline back, they assured me it was there. I then called the CS girl and she assured me they had at least ten of them. Once again, however, the sales reps turned me away - "We can't sell you a product we don't have!" Well, after haggling for a few minutes with them, I went back to the customer service girl and asked her to take a look - she did and sure enough there were ten sitting in the back!!

Lesson - If the computer says they have them, they have the Stowaway! Just keep on them 'til they find it.

that's exactly what happened to me, they kept telling me they didn't have any, but the computer wouldn't say they do, unless they did!!

to all others keep persisting, get a manager if necessary, the managers know that if it's in the computer, it's in the store. it helps if you tell them to look for a targus box and not a handspring box. Most likely it won't be open yet.

Sequitor,
you're welcome glad my efforts saved somebody a lot of heartache, i wouldn't have bought it there if staples had then in stock. they're not as knowledgeable, but they're much more agreeably when you need to find something. better return policy too.

glad everyone's slowly tracking these things down, they really are amazing!

Thumbs up

Hey Indy visor owners. I got my stowaway at Compusa today and they have 7 left. The keep them in the laptop lock up room in the front corner of the store. The employees had no idea what I was talking about and had never seen one of these. It took talking to three red shirts to track it down.
It has a definate "WOW" factor. A great design. My wife even wants to show it off and she hates gadgets. Good luck

I bought one at the Mesa, Arizona CompUSA last night, and they had one left. They are on a special display rack away with all the other Targus products, but away from the rest of the PDA accessories.

I was in Indianapolis this weekend and picked up one of those Stowaways at CompUSA. I was there with my brother-in-law early Saturday and didn't see them. My brother-in-law bought a serial card that ultimately turned out to be the wrong one for his computer. He took it back yesterday around 5 o'clock and overheard another customer rooting around for the Stowaway. Evidently the 10 were found and he called me and asked if I still wanted one. I had him buy it. Was that you PBray that discovered them?

One of those Indy 10 ended up here in Minnesota. :-)

We got our Stowaway at Compusa in Tysons Corner, Virginia. They have 15 (now 14) in stock. But all the denials mentioned in messages above happened to us once we got to the store too! (One wonders, are the salestaff buying these and selling them for personal profit on Ebay? Or do they just not want to trouble themselves to look for the right box?) Finally, a manager intervened and salesperson who said I'd have to wait 2 hours for them to find the box and manager went into stock room produced the item after 5 minutes. Item was not in stacks of boxes above displays in store showroom floor as salesperson had said. Bottom line -- be persistent if computer shows item is in store and call ahead!
