So has anyone found a really good site for guitar tabs? I keep coming across these sites that are mostly advertisements and not very much information. I'm not really looking for any specific type of music, I like to play a variety of stuff.

Oh and if you are one of those enlightenedpeople that were going to tell me to use a search engine, don't waste your breath I'm not interested in what sites Jeeves likes, if I were I'd ask him.

There used to be several good sites, but the record companies/book publishers pretty much shut them down with legal action. Seems that putting the tab to a song up on the web is copyright infringement against the record company (and of course the artist) and the publishing companies that have paid for the rights to print the tab.

You may find the occasional site now and then, but nothing like it was 12-18 months ago.

Hey, thanks for the links! Too bad about the record companies, I don't see what harm the free distribution of tabs would do but we already know they have a bug up their @ss . If I find any other good sites I'll post them here.

Well, it was mostly the publishing companies. The record companies got into it because the publishing companies raised enough ruckus about lost revenue and such that the revenue from licensing to the publishing companies was being threatened.

Actually, this all hit the fan before Napster came on the scene.

I know what you mean, you know how hard it is to find a good lyrics site?

That is even more absurd IMHO! Why shouldn't people be allowed to find out the words to songs so that they can sing along??????

Actually, when I want to find lyrics or info about a specific band I go to http://www.ubl.com. That is the "Ultimate Band List" site. They have links to tons of bands. National, world, regional and just local. You can even add your band to the list. I search for the band I am looking for and usually one of the links that come up will have lyrics and such. I hadn't heard of any fuss from the record companies/artists about lyrics being on the web, just tabs.
