I just ordered my Visor Prism... $250. Not a bad price. The deal is that you get a $150 amazon.com gift certificate from MCI if you switch your long distance to MCI. I switched last week, got my gift certificate last night, and ordered my prism.

You have to do some "funky" accounting to get the $200 off. You need to buy something with the $150 that costs about $1. Then, then $149 goes on your account as credit and you can add the $50 off a $200 purchase. It adds up to a Visor Prism for $250 plus tax (free shipping, and tax only if you're in WA like me...)

Some people are really attached to their long distance... I'm not. There is no required term for long distance.

See http://www.slickdeals.net for the details on this. I'm looking forward to my prism.

Anybody want to trade a brand new Visor Deluxe Rhodiana case for a Visor Prism Rhodiana case ;-)?

Brian

I used the link and didn't find the deal you mentioned. I did see the deals on the Palm IIIc and IIIxe.

Question

Oops, you are correct. It was on there yesterday. OK, here is the deal. It wasn't supposed to end until the end of the month. They did have a web site, but it is "no longer valid URL".

Here is the gist of the deal:

-----

Switch to MCI by calling 1-877-270-2721 and using the Activation code #0761. There is $4.95 monthly fee if your bill is under $25. This was apparently mailed out via snail mail to small businesses. It doesn't look like there is commitment. 7 cents/min out of state. 12 cents/min in state The $150 Amazon certificate will arrive in your welcome pack in 5-7 days.

-----

The Amazon code you need is AMZN-ELEC-TRNC and that does expire at the end of the month. If the MCI thing has already expired, I apologize for not posting it sooner...

Wink Good deal!

Well, the MCI deal is still good -- I just signed up. I hope I get my certificate in time to combine it with the Amazon deal. Thanks for posting!

MISSING SOMETHING

My brain, as usual: Just wondering, why all the machinations and contortions? You can't just get the MCI/Amazon Gift cert and then flat purchase the Prism and include the Amazon $50 off deal? ANd if you can't combine the two, well, wouldn't that remain true even if you did get the cert., buy something for a buck, or whatever, and then try to purchase the Prism with the $50 off plus the remaining balance on the cert.? Whoh. I can't see straight! Anyway, why all the contortions?

Question Contortions...

It doesn't really make sense to me either, but the blurb on the MCI site DOES say:

"Certificate cannot be combined with any other offers and must be used by 3/31/01. Other restrictions apply."

So I guess that's why the convolution. Can't imagine Jeff Bezos' crew isn't smart enough to anticipate that people would get around that provision in the manner outlined above, though...

Brian, have you gotten actual confirmation of your order yet?

The MCI thing is indeed a gift certificate, but it rings up as "promotional credit." If you try to use it with the Amazon $50 off it will apply only the $150 and you will lose the $50 (can't use it on something else). If you use the $150 for a small purchase, the remainder is credit on your account, not "promotional credit."

Good luck... my Prism is headed for Denver (ups tracking) and is on its way to Seattle ;-)

Well, Brian, I went for it. Actually, MCI is a deal for me, so that's great. The Cert. is on its way. But, *sigh* I didn't see anything at Amazon.com regarding $50 off first purchases or electronic purchases. So, if that's still on 'til the end of the month where're the details. I practically purchased something over $200 while signing up for Amazon but never was advised during the process that I'd be awarded any kind of discount. Sooooo, you sure about that? Thanks for reading, helping.

Lightbulb

Note that these are two separate deals... the MCI certificate is one thing, and the $50 off on electronics is another. Check out:

http://www.dealcatcher.com/deals.as...&category=8

or

http://www.slickdeals.net/category/electronics/?

for details on the $50 amazon certificate. I don't know where on Amazon they would have details on it, but I can tell you for a fact that it does work. However, you just can't use this and the MCI certificate *directly* together.

Brian: Yep, there it is: Thanks for posting and remaining vigilant on this board for Qs and As. So: Timing is everything, I guess. If MCI kicks it in gear, guess I can start the "machinery" on this thing next week, juuuuust a touch before that deadline. Still, I'll have to purchase a small item and wait to establish the new balance before I take advantage of this process, huh? Is that true. One more personal question: What did you order for a buck? (I sound like the 1-800-COLLECT commercial).

Amazon discount

Amazon actually sent me a flyer with $50 and $100 off coupons for their electronics stuff a couple weeks ago, though I think I threw it out, not wanting to be tempted to spend money indulging in more toys I didn't really need...

But someone on the slickdeals.com site posted a code you can use to get the same discount when you order from Amazon...

Am I missing something, or wouldn't the IIIxe be FREE with this deal? It's $249, plus the $150 gift certificate for the MCI switch (applied as outlined above), PLUS the $50 Amazon coupon/discount special, PLUS the $50 manufacturer's rebate... which makes it free, right? Not that I'd compromise my allegiance to Handspring...

Here is the url for the MCI deal:

http://www.mciworld.com/servlet/par...page=index.html

However, what everyone seems to be missing, or leaving out of the discussion, is that the deal is only for small businesses. It is not intended for residential access. Is everyone using the coupon for their small business or have you been able to use it for a residential line as well?

This offer expires 12/31/00, so please respond quickly.

Thanks

Yeah, the small business thing is kinda funky. However, they don't ever ask if you are a small business. You just give them the code and they switch you over. I suppose if you called and said "I'm not sure this is for me" they might not let you have the deal... but for me I called and said I wanted to switch my long distance using code "XXXX" and they said OK.

I should point out that I'm playing with my new $250 visor prism right now... it's very cool and definitely worth the $250. I'm not sure yet if it's worth $450, but I really like it a lot. When you add up all the improvements aside from the color, there really is a lot to be had: 33 mhz, newer OS, etc. Overall, I'm very happy.

As far as residential, just call them up and go for it. There isn't a "term" as far as I can tell, and $150 is worth the trouble.

Brianp, did you give them a business name? The online form on the MCI web site says that a business name is a required field.

BTW, I saw a Prism for the first time last night. I agree that I don't think I would spend $450. Plus, I believe that it is harder to read than the monochromes.

Thanks for the input!

I actually did it over the phone. I just gave them my name. I don't recall if they asked for a business name, but if they did I just gave them my name again... don't rememeber exactly.

I have been known to do a little bit of work out of my house, so I figured that qualified me as a "really" small business; small businesses in my line of work are often just the name of the sole proprietor. Made sense to me ;-). They didn't ask me or anything, though.

Smile Mind your own business...

The offer doesn't require you to be incorporated, just a small business, so I guess it's up to your own personal ethics whether you feel you can consider yourself a business -- you do have to give them a business name, though...

They didn't ask one from me, when I called them yesterday.
