I recently downloaded a demo of Rand McNally's Street Finder City Centers. This software is really cool (In color for you Prism owners). I was wondering if anyone knows of a GPS Module that would work with this software. I checked http://www.randmcnally.com and noticed that they only sell GPS systems for the Palm not the Visor.

Rand McNally's Street Finder

I bought the Rand McNally per a message I read on another site:

This GPS reviecer is NMEA compliant 2.0+.

This device has a serial port connector. I think that if you purchased the correct cable from a cable supplier (maybe a Handspring to Modem serial cable, I've seen them, just not sure where) then connect the GPS to the visor, this might work.

Maybe? Sound possible?

Magellan Should Work

The Magellan GPS Companion is NMEA compliant and should work, I have tried it with both Solus Pro 2.0 and GPSCompass and both work fine. The Geode definitely will not work (I've tried it with everything), despite their tenuous claims of NMEA compatibility (read the FAQ on their web site for further details) which happen to be incompatible with all third party software in the known universe (at least they are consistent, talk about standards compliance!).

If you do get a serial GPS you can interface the unit with either the Mark/Space cable ( http://www.markspace.com/datacord.html ), the DeLorme Visor adaptor ( http://www.delorme.com/earthmate/visor_pac.asp ) or the EFIG diagnostic module ( http://www.efig.com/SP_products.html ), I use the latter with my eTrex and it works beautifully!

(if the Rand McNally isn't available check out the Garmin eTrex with the adaptor cable, very nice)

GPS

If you can't find the Rand McNally Laptop GPS (Serial) @ Office Depot Best Buy said they would price match. I can scan my receipt if anyone is interested.

I think this is better if it DOES work, (I have to order the cable) because it won't use the Springboard and you can use the slot for something else, (Memory for the maps, etc.) and you can also use the GPS with a normal laptop.

Rand McNally Street Finder

Hey Bukow- Rand McNally should be coming out with Software for the HandyGPS by Nexian towards the end of March. The software is compatible with the visor PDA.

Does StreetFinder run on the Palm or the computer? I am wondering if the HandyGPS Pro bundle will work on a Macintosh.
