Question

I am erratically getting two alarms when an appointment/float comes up. Sometimes I just get one alarm, other times I get both DateBK3's alarm and DateBook+'s alarm. I cannot say they come in the same order or that it happens every time.

My DateBK3 alarm preferences are set for DataBK3 to handle alarms. I do not have any alarm hacks set up.

Any suggestions?

I also had this problem and have exchanged e-mail with the esteemed Datebk3 author (C. Steuart Dewar). He gave me a temporary fix which masked the ROM application of Datebook+.
1. I got datebkstub.prc application from him.
2. I changed its creator ID to HsDB using Z'Catalog (HsDB is the creator ID on Datebook+).

Doing this silenced the alarms from Datebook+. Steuart does not appear to have updated his web-site to make this datebkstub.prc available yet. He did say he was going to work on a fix to Datebk3 or produce a version of Datebk3 for Visor owners.

If you post your e-mail address (or e-mail me), I can send you the "fixed" datebkstub and you can just install that.

I have pasted below an email that CESD posted to the Pilot mailing list.

quote:
Datebook+ and non-Roman Language environments
=============================================

The advanced Datebook application (Datebook+) on the Visor is, as you probably know, a specially-licensed version of Datebk3 that I prepared for Handspring. There is a problem however if you run some non-Roman language
hacks (Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese) as Datebook+ does not have Datebk3's
preference setting to turn OFF the Roman language optimizations in the second weekly and list views. As a result, text in those two views may appear scrambled.

I have worked around this problem by putting together a tiny app that will toggle the preference setting in Datebook+'s preference file (although there is no option in Datebook+, the preference setting still exists in the binary preference file - a useful hook I left in there just to address this
eventuality). You can download this small app, dbprefsfixup.prc from this
URL:
http://www.gorilla-haven.org/pimlico/handspring.htm

Running Datebk3 on the Visor
============================

Although Datebook+ should meet the needs of most datebk3 users, there will
be some users who WILL need those more advanced features of Datebk3 that
were omitted from datebook+, namely icons, categories, time-zones, appts
spanning midnight, Reminders, etc.

The only problem is that Datebook+ may attempt to sound alarms if it is the
selected datebook. In theory you should just be able to select the REGULAR
built-in datebook application and you should not get any doubled alarms. If
you DO, however, have a problem with datebook+ sounding alarms, just
download dtbkplusstub.prc (use the URL above) which will completely mask the
Datebook+ application in ROM and prevent it from interfering in ANY way with
the operation of Datebk3 on the Visor.

A question many have asked is "can Pimlico provide a patch to enable icons
(or categories, or timezones, etc., etc.). The answer is that it is not
practical to do this as Datebook+ is in ROM and it cannot be patched in any
reasonable fashion. And even if it could be patched, it's not clear that
writing those patches would be a worthwhile endeavor given the complexity of
writing them. So the only practical option is to run the full version of
Datebk3.
===========================
I may also beef up dbprefsfixup with some other options. For example, the
options to schedule the Floating Advance Time (hard-wired at midnight in the
Visor) and the ability to set individual priorities on each Todo category
could in fact be supported by this application along with several others.

In any event, if anyone experiences any problems, issues, questions running
Datebk3 on the Visor, please email me and let me know about them.

Finally, Datebook+ is a Handspring application and any support issues
relating to that application should be directed to Handspring (by all means
copy me if you wish!).

This fix for Datebk3 on the Visor IS posted on the Datebk3 site --- I was looking at the Datebk3 page and it's not mentioned there.

I installed this new datebook stub (dtbkplusstub.prc) and it worked just fine --- it eliminated the alarms coming from Datebook+.

kalahari I would love that stub. My email address is [email protected] I will be jumping on a plane within the hour, so I may have to live with it for a while.

found it. I had to do a hard reset after installing the stub. I am hoping that is is due to netscape's downloading it. Once I get the device restored I will try a version downloaded with ie.
