I've got plenty of time on my hands...
well, the breeder that we got him from had a system to help him remember when his dogs were born. Each year had a letter and seeing that there are 26 letters, the odds of 2 dogs being alive at the same time and having the same letter is pretty slim to none (a dog living 26 years is not too common). Each dog in that year got a number added to the letter in the chronological order of their birth.
We had already decided we were going to name our dog Jack becuase the first time we saw him (at 5 weeks old) he just looked like a little buddy we'd call Jack (i know, strange, but i think dogs should just be called regular names...i'm not a big fan of 'Spot' or 'Killer'. I prefer 'Bob' or 'Evan').
So when we went to pick him up (at 8 weeks) we were told of his naming system so we decided to still name him 'Jack' but change it to 'Gack' since he was born in the year of 'G'. He was the 13th dog of year 'G' so he has a small '13 G' tattooed on the underside of his ear! Good identification!
And that is the story of 'Gack'. I had this story up on my website (personal) but the site came down last year when i switched my ISP and I haven't really had time to put it back up.....hmmm...maybe this weekend?
