Follow the Money
With PDA Software
By KELLY K. SPORS
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
As hand-held computers get more sophisticated, so does the software that accompanies them.
Many Web sites now sell downloadable applications for PDAs and cellphones that can help you manage your money -- from tracking investments and logging inventory for insurance purposes to calculating expenses and storing personal passwords and account numbers.
The software, usually tailored to a specific device, can cost anywhere from $2 to more than $100. Some software can be tested for a week or a month before you commit to purchase it. Here's a sampling of some popular sites:
Handango
www.handango.com
Handango sells the broadest array of software -- more than 35,000 different programs -- for personal handheld devices. It's also the leading seller of downloadable software for mobile phones. The site lets users browse through software options based on the device's operating system. Users can also view lists of the best-selling and newest finance applications.
PDATopSoft.com

This Web site sells many of the same programs for PDAs and cellphones as other sites. Users can view life-size images of what the programs look like before they buy them. Developers can sign in and register to sell their software on the site. And customers on the site can read and post reviews of software they try.
PalmGear

PalmGear may be the best site for people looking for Palm-based software. The site sells only Palm software, with more than 19,000 downloadable applications. It also displays lists of the most popular downloads. And it sells e-books.
