Exclamation

http://chat.visorcentral.com/index2.php

Please leave your comments here... The chat will eventually be in a pop up window, so you can both chat and surf VC at the same time

If you want to chat from your Palm, download an IRC client (like PalmIRC http://www.palmgear.com/software/sh...amp;prodID=2984 ) and set the server to chat.visorcentral.com

Oh, don't try to chat with Vinnie. He is just a bot

I'm having a hell of a time logging in. What info goes into what blank? Is our nick name our VC user name? Or is our real name our VC user name? Or doesn't it matter?

This has got to be one of the coolest things to come to VC in a long time. I never though that it would be this great. Now all I have to do is try it with the Minstrel modem.

BEN

Update..
Now that I've used the chat some more, I think that it would be a good idea to make the text box a little bigger so you can write longer message in it without feeling short on space.

I think Netscape has horrible Java support. I'd try IE, I always have to change to IE when trying to go into Java type things like chats.

Worked great... but chat's no fun if you're alone. <sniff>

Maybe there could be regular chat times, something like an online users group meeting? Hmmm...

I like the idea of meeting times and to expand on that maybe VC could organize chats with different SpringBoard and software developers? Have a VIP of the month chat, or something along those lines.

I noticed when connecting to chat, it takes an awful long time before it allows me to join the channel (45secs or more..) anyone else having this problem?

Joe

Yeah it takes me a while too. Maybe if I used an IRC client instead of a web browser it would go faster? I'm gonna go hunt around for a good Mac IRC client.

I'd have to also agree with Matty on this.. I'd also like to add I've been "on-line" since 1984 (go C= 64!), just never really wanted to chat with anyone till finding VC!

What is IRC? (the great grandparent to AOL IM!)

quote from: http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html

1. What is IRC, and how does it work?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) provides a way of communicating in real time with people from all over the world. It consists of various separate networks (or "nets") of IRC servers, machines that allow users to connect to IRC. The largest nets are EFnet (the original IRC net, often having more than 32,000 people at once), Undernet, IRCnet, DALnet, and NewNet.
Generally, the user (such as you) runs a program (called a "client") to connect to a server on one of the IRC nets. The server relays information to and from other servers on the same net. Recommended clients:

UNIX/shell: ircII
Windows: mIRC or PIRCH
Macintosh: Ircle
Be sure to read the documentation for your client!

Once connected to an IRC server on an IRC network, you will usually join one or more "channels" and converse with others there. On EFnet, there often are more than 12,000 channels, each devoted to a different topic. Conversations may be public (where everyone in a channel can see what you type) or private (messages between only two people, who may or may not be on the same channel). IRC is not a "game", and I highly recommend you treat people you meet on IRC with the same courtesy as if you were talking in person or on the phone, or there may be serious consequences.

In terms of Mac clients ircle seems to be the most popular, but after attempting to use it and being quite confused, it decided to crash my system. Now if I open it it crashes my system in seconds. Any other good Mac clients out there?
