Here's something interesting I found at eGroups:

"I recently had a minstrel S. After a few weeks of frustrating experiences watching it search, acquire and drop signal I cancelled my account. I detailed my experience with OS to the gentleman at yada yada and gave comparative signal strength readings from both devices. He was surprised that the minstrel v was that much better but said he would look into it and get back to me. He never did so I called back to cancel. The tech I spoke with was aware of my call and said that they really didn't know why it was happening. He recommended I call novatel. I did and their tier1 indicated that it was a problem with all visor solos and deluxes in the shielding. Handspring wont acknowledge it is a problem but will replace the older device for a newer one that is more shielded according to novatel. The Prism and platinum have the newer shielding but, according to Novatel, still experience a fair amount of RF from the springboard slot and as such get weaker signals. He indicated that the problem was endemic to Visor and that a fix was not in the works. What sucks is that most people won't even know they have a problem and yada, os, and Handspring certainly aren't going to unpromote the minstrel s."

Question

Interesting, I ordered my yada and minstrel on Tuesday 3pm. Still have no tracking number (they use the holiday excuse) and I've checked for days on any posted info about the modem and OS/YY. Anyone using it in AUSTIN? please let me know how the connection is in your area. I've seen many places that there is a coupon in the box for a return with Handspring. It seems like it's an advance ship, so you don't have to be without the visor. I'll give it a few weeks and see how it is for me in SW austin before blowing a fuse.
