On the History Channel

The History Channel has a show about gadgets (isn't satelite TV great). They did a segment of PDA's in which Palm devises and the HS Visorphone were prominent.

I saw that last night. I thought it was odd seeing new stuff on the History Channel but it was pretty informative. It didn't have a huge PocketPC bias which was very nice. I was dissapointed when I watched TechTV on vacation a little (our cable provider doesn't carry it for some reason) and they kept on talking about how the PocketPC was was a Porsche and the Palm was a VW.

Who on TechTV said that and in what context? The reason I ask is that I don't recall them ever saying anything bad about Palm devices, so I'm not sure if that was really intended as a diss. Maybe it was meant from the standpoint of being extremely reliable daily transportation that almost anyone can afford and use vs. a high-end sports car that's overkill for most?

Well it was during last week when I was in Florida and they had it on their cable (I'll have it soon too because I just subscribed to digital cable!). They had a palm expert on or something to that degree who was talking all about the addons for the iPaq, but how expensive they were. He never mentioned Handspring but once, and never the springboard. A lady who obviously was not technically inclined made the comment "I still think its more of a Porsche vs. VW argument." I also noticed that they're using the iPaq for things several times when I tuned in. For example when they demoed a wireless radio station with an iPaq. I can understand that though because they had to use the Ricochet network--and there are no Palm interfaces for that yet I assume? I didn't watch too much of it so I may have just got a slice of the network at the wrong time.

Sounds like it might have been one of their "24-hour coverage" segments which seem intended to look like MSNBC-style news programs. I really don't watch those segments since they come off as pretty boring and vapid to me. The 'older' programs are more interesting, IMO: Fresh Gear, Screen Savers, etc.
