MY Visorphone is gone (or will be)...

FWIMC, just my current status...

I had a VP with a Prism. Too big, heavy (not, if compared to an IPAQ with the sleeve and wireless card ).

So, just ordered a Red-M Bluetooth module from Palmgear, and bought an Ericsson T39m with GPRS and Bluetooth. The Ericsson is tiny!

So, I'll be able to browse, check e-mails etc while away, without cable or having to point devices to use IR...

Also, bought a USB Bluetooth card, to connect to my desktop. This way I can share my cable connection while at home.

I'll post later to check if all this worked together

Anyone know of a Bluetooth CDMA phone? I live in a part of the USA that has no GSM providers.

I'm currently using my GPRS connection over IR... But i'm tracking UPS and see my Bluetooth module is just leaving US today!

GPRS way too expensive

GPRS is waaaaaaaaaaay too expensive for the average consumer 9as i mentioned in a post a couple weeks back). My local cell phone company is charging 15 cents CAD abou 10 cents U.S a kilobyte for GPRS usage! That is ludicrous. The average email is about 5 kb or so.

Hi!

This is the update...

Bought the Red-M Blade Bluetooth Springboard from Palmgear. From USA to New Zealand in just over seven days, including Xmas and Customs!

Bought the TDK Bluetooth USB adaptor from PrimateSystems. Again, only seven days! Both Bluetooth things arrived in New Zealand the very same day

Bought an Ericsson T39m, direct from Vodafone New Zealand.

Prism / Desktop:

Hotsync worked straight away, no problems at all!

The TDK USB Bluetooth supports LAN Access, but the Red-M requires PPP, which I can not provide with Win2k (not yet).

What did I do? Well, downloaded MochaPPP, assigned it to one Virtual Serial Port provided by the TDK Bluetooth software.

On the Prism, created a new connection called Mocha, using the Bluetooth Serial connection to a server (my desktop).

Hit the CONNECT button and in record time it was working!

Because I live in a two story house, I bought a USB repeater cable (five metres) and ran it to the top of the stairs.

Now, I can browse the internet using my Prism, from anywhere in the house!

Prism Ericsson Mobile / GPRS:

I'm using the same connection I had for IR to mobile, now using Bluetooth Dial UP. The Dial Up service is provided by my Ericsson, so I can connect to the internet using GPRS while away from home.

Worked ok, but I'm not impressed with this - I like the home solution better

The Red-M Blade card:

Good product, worked ok, the builtin software includes PrimateSystem's Monkey Messenger for SMS via Bluetooth (great stuff!), Mobimate's PhoneMate, and Eudora Internet Suite (good for e-mail, but I'm using Blazer 2.0 for browsing).

About PhoneMate: perhaps because I tried it before, the new one was "Unregistered" (Prefs db?). Anyway, I contacted MobiMate, and the support people helped with this one. I'll use it!

Some other stuff on the CD, including Mobimate's WorldMate and Astraware Biplane Ace (you can play against another Bluetooth user!) I still have to go thru it!

Hope you guys like this update.

I'll write more later, after testing more!

Hey Freitasm aka Mauricio (cool name) Thanks for the update. I have a question for you though. How does the phonemate dialler thing work. Can you just duial the number from the Visor and the t39 phone automatically dials out? What if you have a headset for the T39 -- couild you just dial from the Visor and everything is connected automatically? Let me know!

Phonemate has the Dial and SMS buttons... You hit the Dial and the T39 will dial out... You can hung up in two ways: on the phone itself, or using the Hung up button on PhoneMate. Very cool...

I like PhoneMate for the dial and easy to find names... MonkeyMessenger is better for it's a SMS application - send and retrieves from the T39!

Haven't got the headset yet (still holiday here in NZ, and they're sold out until Friday in this region!). Also, they're quite a pricey item: NZD 399 (USD 165). I'll try it soon, though

Example: Can you set up different profiles for different devices


Simulation: At work (or wherever) you have your RedMBlade Connected to your Phone.

As soon as you get home , you only need to switch "Profiles" to connect to your desktop ?

Yep...You're not always connected, only while using services - this is valid if using the headset, the desktop, the Visor or the phone.

You can pair the device with as many other devices you want. Then you move each device into different categories, like "Dial up/LAN Access/Serial". These are the client services supported on the Visor.

I have Dial up client pointing to my mobile. The Serial points to my desktop, so does the LAN Access.

When I want to use GPRS or dial up, I use a Network entry with BT Dialup. When I hit the Connect button it'll establish communication with my mobile.

When I want to use my cable modem connection, I point to a Network entry with BT Serial profile, which connects to my desktop, Serial service. MochaPPP is listening on the virtual COM, and I have a connection!

The LAN Access, according to the Bluetooth specs, supports only PPP over Ethernet. So, you can use a Bluetootn LAN Access point ($$$$) or download and install a PPP over Ethernet driver for Windows/Unix, and use a virtual Ethernet Adapter. On the Visor create a network entry to BT LAN Access, and connect!

In each category you can choose a default device, or -PROMPT-, this way the Visor will ask which paired device to use.

You can create your categories, like Work, and assign a device - let's say a LAN Access in your office. As soon you hit the office, connect and remain connected!

I have MochaPPP and 3COM Bluetooth Connection Manager running on a PC with the 3COM PCMCIA Bluetooth card. Blade connects via Bt Serial Host, but no joy for TCP/IP apps - Blazer, EudoraWeb, Eudora, etc.

Can you think of anything I'm missing?
