Places to get Visor stuff

What are some of the better stores (online and B&M) carry accessories for the Visor?

Kind of a basic question, but I can't seem to find what I'm after.

Do these have what your lookin' for? Try doing a search on one of the price sites nextag.com, if you can't find it.

I have been having a lot of luck doing www.google.com searches for accessories, instead of the various price comparison shops.

For example, I found GoType keyboards (before their recent price reduction) at a site called ProAdvantage for a cheaper shipped price than I was seeing elsewhere.

The problem, of course, is the amount of garbage you have to wade through!

Also- a good source for accessories is www.styluscentral.com.

Provantage.com usually has very good prices on their computer hardware. My husband bought an Elsa Gladiac 920 video card for $350 from provantage, where it retails for $550 elsewhere (at least at the time, probably less now). However, we waited for well over a month for the card to come in. Their catalog has the prices of visors, and they are the same as at handspring's site... the edge was even higher priced than at handspring's site. I guess that it just depends on the day. Buy.com has the best prices I've seen so far, although their visor stock is pretty shabby-- other than the gotype! and the stowaway, there isn't much else they sell that is visor specific. But you can find stuff there if you look.

They have stuff at my local: Staples, Best Buy, CompUSA and Office Max. They all have the price match guarantee so their prices are the same. As for shopping online, I purchased my visor through Handspring.com and I am very satisfied with their service and Customer support. But they are charging for custumer support because mine expired now

I have found some good prices at e-Bay. Just got a memory card, usb port and card reader with no problems.

I was at THREE (count em') THREE computer stores today, and here's my analysis:

Office Max- it's a joke
Best Buy- Always seems to have the newest PDA's, has most accesories
Staples- Has most software.

You may ask, which store has the best service? Ha! Service?

All of the stores that I've been in; Staples, Office max, Comp USA, Circuit City, Best Buy, even the Sprint and Voicestream Sales person , where useless. I was at Comp USA today and I observed a sales"boy" reading off a brochure, telling a customer the features of a visor prism and ipaq
I do my research online, then I try the stuff out at Comp USA or Best Buy (they don't seem to care) If I am at Staples or Office Max The sales people attack you as soon as you touch their product, I ask them questions like "does this work with my mac" or " what are my expansion possibilities ?" and most of the time, they walk away baffled. it's almost funny.

I was at Best Buy a week ago buying my Pro and had to wait at the PDA desk behind a couple looking for a PDA. The husband was asking about the difference between the PPC and PalmOS, which was better (Has anyone tried to answer that before?? :-/). He saw that the PPC units had more RAM than the PalmOS but were more expensive. The man asked the sales boy how much it would cost to get a "8 meg RAM card" for the Visor Deluxe... and the guy told him $40. He didn't seem to address the issue that the customer did not understand how memory worked in a PDA, I assume the guy thought he could just put a chip in it like he does his computer at home. And last time I checked the 8meg flash module was going for more than $40. I hope the associate does not try to sell him a 8meg backup module (retails for $40) making him believe it will ADD 8meg of memory to the Visor. It is so frustrating when I see stuff like this, and I am helpless to keep it from happening. I tried to say something to the guy shopping, but he just ignored me and started talking over me. His loss....

I second that! My huband recently got a job at Office Max. He is very knowledgeable about electronics, specifically computers and pdas, that he can answer nearly anyone's questions about electronics. He was hired because he had that knowledge, as do the other salespeople on the floor at Office Max where he works. Perhaps some other stores (like Circuit City maybe?) do not have reputable salespeople, but I know that if I had a question about a Visor that I didn't know, or a friend of mine had a question, the people there would be able to answer that.

(Sorry for the long rant... It's hard to see salespeople as dumb employees when you're married to one. )

You should head back up the UofI then to "refresh" yourself on what people are ranting about. There are several worthless knuckledraggers at the Staples in Moscow, and while the guys at the Office Depot are better, they're still pretty sad.

I haven't made it to the UofI yet, I'm just a freshman at the community college, but eventually UofI I've edited my post to clairfy my view on salepeople. Yes there are bad ones, but there are good ones in a few places. Oh yeah, would you like to protect your investment in the EM1($49.98)? For only $5.99 we offer a Product Replacement Plan that will replace the EM1 for one additional year beyond the Mfr.'s warranty.

Yuppers, that is usually not what happens today, but sometimes employers do look for knowledge of the products. My husband was hired because of his computer experience... it just turns out that he is a good salesperson. Icthus, I know what you mean about the salespeople in Moscow... they don't know squat. But it's mainly because they hire college students who can BS and sound convincing through a sale. At least there are some places that make sure their employees know the specifics of what they are trying to sell.

Our local CompUSA is the best local place for a variety fo PDAs and accessories. The sales staff are OK to pretty good, and the prices are usually fair.

Oddly, sometimes the prolem here is checking out. The lines are usually long because there are only 1 or 2 open, and they are very slow.

I have actually been there when there were no check-stands being manned, and customers were walking around trying to figure out how to pay for their stuff. I know several just put their stuff down and walked out, and I would bet that a couple did not put the stuff down first!

A similar situation happened to me at Circuit City- I wanted to purchase some software, and all the departmental salesmen were helping a couple choose a monitor or printer or something. There was no central check out and finally a salesman from another department noticed me and checked me out. Next trip, buying accessories, almost the same thing- but no helpful staff from another department. I put the stuff down, walked out (wow, more than 5 years ago now!) and have never been back. I also never recommend the Citry to friends looking for electronics purchases.

As far as shopping- I research on the Net, try it out at CompUSA, then buy it wherever I get the best price.

I like shopping at places that offer things used, like half.com or Amazon.com's 'buy it used' option (especially modules- there is not a whole lot that can go wrong with a module!); online auctions, like eBay or Yahoo; and clearance places like overstock.com (I got a great laptop here).

I also do a lot of Google searches for low prices- I find that a little reseach via Google often beats the best prices of the other comparative price services.
