Yes parents are responsible for what their children see / experience, which is why there should be clear guidelines for radio and television. The constant blurring of what is deemed as allowable is resulting in very mixed messages to our children. When the public shies away from being responsible for what is being presented (without a moral code) to any child then the public is to blame. It's fine to say "It's up to the parent.", but is that any solace to the parent who raises their child correctly only to have some other persons child bring tragedy into their life?

Oh those were your kids and you know what sort of parenting they had.

Then why do live tv at all? Lets tape everything so no one is offended.

Kids raised watching rape, killing, violence, are likely to emulate that behaviour as adults you see it happening every day !

Not if their parents explain, teach, show, instruct, help them understand right from wrong.

And how do you explain all the people that were murdered throughout history BEFORE there were tv and movies and the popular media. What outside influence caused those bad behaviors?

Utter nonsense, look who's talking. Humans are sexual and violent by nature. The only way to control those inate qualities is with guidance and instruction. Laws don't prevent people from acting. Understanding does.

This kind of TV is better off on HBO, where each individual has the choice to subscribe or not. Lock it off or not.

Adult channels for adults.

That kind of conduct during family viewing hours should not, and will not be tolerated. Finally the FCC wakes up !

Kids do not need to be subjected to all this garbage all the time.

Because man grew from violence and reproduces, we need to be subjected to endless violence and sex, because that is who we are ?

Then your not much more evolved than an animal.....Woof

I cannot believe how many post & how much controversy this subject has garnered. I'm truly amazed! After all, it was just a Breast!

The sad part of all of this is that their are so many "REAL" topics that "REALLY DO" affect our lives on a daily basis, but yet most people do not spend anywhere near this amount of time & passion discussing them. To me, that's the real shame of this. People are so shallow & phony. I wonder if most people will ever "get it" or are we just doomed with ignorance and hypocrisy?

Which real, meaningful topic should we discuss here? Treo 610 rumors? Palm v. PPC? Which are my "killer" apps?

This is a fun place to go for interesting discussion - it's not the United Nations Human Rights Commission. I deal with heavy topics all day long at work - I don't want to deal with it here. Life's short - lighten up!

Actually for a parent raising your kid properly amongst the lies and garbage of this world is pretty much the most important topic you can discuss. It cuts to the core of almost evry other topic you could bring up.

Why don't just just stop watching tv if all of it offends you so much?

YAAAA the government is here to rescue us. Whoopeee! (I know a liberal when I see one)

How do you keep the kids away from the adult channels when youre not home?

When you find you find a place in life that is free from violence you let me know. The only place that I know of that currently fits the bill is the grave.

Regarding your last statement.... neither are you. No one is. The veneer of civilization is thin. Animals are we.

It's just that soooo much attention is being paid to this situation till it's crazy. After all, we are only talking about a "boob!" I'm just sick & tired of these "Holier Than Thou" types whom are offended by everything they see & hear.

Woof, you hit it right on the head. People just get real.

Violence and nudity doesn't affend me, it is truly sad that this is what Hollywood seems to want, and is best at selling to the masses.

We are talking about children, more so those kids on the edge.

Yes, society is violent, but our kids don't need to be subjected to it so Hollywood can make more money at the sake of their innocense.

My kids are grown up and have kids.

It is up to us to protect our kids and let them stay children as long as possible.

As far as animals go, we are the animal that has the ability to reason.

Holy Crap!!! we might just agree on something. That has been my point all along. It's not up to the government to protect our kids, it's up to us. If you leave it to the goverment, it should be abundantly clear they are doing a piss poor job. All those kids on the edge you speak of are perfect examples. I am betting your children decide what your grandkids can and can't do, not the government.

Possessing an ability is no guarantee that it will be used. Remember we happen to be one of just a few species on this planet that kill each other for sport. Reason doesn't make us better than animals, it just gives us the ability to rationalize our behavior.

I am not believer in the goverment raising my kids, but some things are beyond our control, and unfortunately we still need them for some matters.

I figured out a way to eliminate the Senate and Congress when I was in JR High.

The criminal news media, Hollyweird and everything that is wrong with our world doesn't need to be constatly put in front of our kids for display.

I sure as hell wouldn't want Bill, Hillary, or Michael Jackson around my kids !

You are one of those "Holier Than Thou" types and please, you are by no means "the voice of reason". You are a "do gooder" that feels like you know what's best for everyone. Give me a break!!

To be "Holier Than Thou" I would have to be devote Christian, sorry.

I am just saying the truth and it makes you upset.

Not a "Do Gooder" either, but if I saw you hurt on the side of the road, yes I would try to help.

And if you don't like what I am saying, go grab a cold one, lay back, twist one up, and chill out.

It is a discussion man, take a pill.

dlbrummels, we're just having a lively debate. Don't take it the wrong way. I think debates like this are healthy. Debating like this is what makes us "animals" unique from other species. You have your opinion & I have mine. In the end "it's all good."

Who said I was rushing to judgement? I was just stating my opinion about the (in my view) crazy statements you were posting. I can't judge you, but I can comment on what you were posting, right?

I may be somewhat idealistic, but I have no need of government assistance raising my children. If I can't control what they see, which I know I can not always do, I can control their understanding of what they see. I am not saying porn should be on abc primetime, but what is there now is acceptable to me. If I don't want my kids to see it they won't and if they do see something I cant control (JJ's breast) I can explain it away. It is so easy to make it a non issue. A parents' reaction has huge influence on the importance a child assigns to a given situation. No big deal to us, very likely no big deal to them.
Having children is great responsibility as you know. I accept that and expect nothing from our government in the way of help protecting them. That's not what our government was created for.

Did you let your kids watch the news? Cause it's worse than many regular shows.

I am curious just how government intervention is going to keep Bill, Hilary or Michael away from your kids. they are all free citizens at the moment. If they get near your kids that will be your fault.

For what it's worth, being holier than thou has nothing to do with being Christian. Anyone, religious or not, can act superior. It's just an expression.
You are presenting opinion, not truth. The truth is relative anyway. One man's truth is another man's lies.

And I seriously doubt hiding behind alchohol and drugs is the answer.
