Question Visorphone & Data Package????

Ok I have been hearing that you need a data service subcription from your carrier to dial into an ISP with the VP, but alot of people say you dont...I just got my Visor phone today.... the ISP i can dial into with the Xircom56k modem doesnt work when I try to dial into it with the VP...is connectiong with an ISP without data services on your plan even possible?

Oh ya, I am in TORONTO CANADA using FIDO.

thanks for any help

All I needed here in SC USA was a NEW account with cingular and added there wireless data service to the bill.
What I get is 700m for $50 and free nights and weekends and LD.Add $6.99 for the data service. It uses my air time during PEEK day time hours. And free after hours.
Using the VP has been cool.Surfing the web and useing e-mail on the go has been great.
Hope you get your going.
Who is you NEW GSM phone company?

Congrats on the VP. Once you experience going cordless, you'll never go back to landline modems

I, too, have the VP and Cingular service. I'm in CA so I need to have my data services turned. You get two numbers, one for data and another for fax. This is in addition to the phone number. Anyway, I tried dialing into my ISP (Earthlink) without the data services turned. It just plain will not work. There's no harm in trying, but you'll get a 'no dial tone' message or something similar from the VP.

Hey Crustytrusty,

I recently got my VP as well and am also on the Fido network here in Toronto. Just for the heck of it I tried making a data call into Sympatico's dial-up pool and got nothing but a "No carrier" error. I spoke with yardie (he's around here somewhere) who has the same setup, but he does subscribe to Fido's FidoData service. Costs $5 a month. I think I'll give it a try.

Arrow FIDO Data

All you need is FIDO DATA.... Just call them up and say I want FIDO Data. They will add it and bill you $5/month and then you can connect to your ISP. I am using it and its very very nice. Connection to ISP (Bell Sympatico) is very fast too. I am usually online in about 30 seconds.

Are you signed up with Sympatico? You must be signed up in order to use the number. Just give them a call 310-SURF to get the number.
