Question

OK, my wife finally got Intellisync to get sync'ed at work with Groupwise. Everything synchronizes just fine except for e-mail, and tech support said it's because her Visor's username is different from her Groupwise username. So does she need to do a hard reset to change usernames, or is there another option?

Everything is synced, so I guess a hard reset is no problem, it would just be nice if there's a smoother way.

Exclamation

Depending on the configuration of the GroupWise postoffice (and assuming she can iron-out the username issue), she may only be able to get her mail. She might not be able to post mail if the postoffice is running exclusively in client/server mode (at least if it is on an NT server). If this turns out to be the case, return Intellisync; and get Toffa International's SyncWisePro.

Incidentally, SyncWisePro has no problem with your Visor username being different from your e-mail account! Actually, for use with GroupWise, I think that SyncWisePro is the better conduit - GroupWise is all they do. Intellisync does Outlook really well, Notes fairly well, and anything else is less than great.

There is a shortcut dot soemthing that resets the username under PalmOS. I don't have it with me at home. It might be in my mailbox at work. It might also be in a shortcut faq on the Internet somewhere.

"shortcut dot soemthing" == the bow-like graffiti stroke, with two dots (ie, shows one dot), then something else that I can't recall.

Someone chime in if they know. I've also heard about a "shortcut dot something" that turns beam receive on for 15 seconds. Anyone know that one?

Changing the User Name is easy. Just go into Palm Desktop and use the Tools\Users command, select a user and rename it. Next time you sync it will change the User Name on the handheld as well.

I've never used groupwise, so I can't help there.

The shortcut to turn on beam receive is shortcut.i (for infrared)

AndrewB - I asked the same question about the 'dot' shortcuts - here's a link to info about them:

Bruce - thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try!

I downloaded a program called PalmName, latest version is 3.0.

Its a pretty basic and boring program, but it does allow you to change your Palm username, and the all important UserID.

It is available via this link: http://www.palmgear.com/software/sh...amp;prodID=2456

just to reinforce the above post. All you need to do is change the name form the Palm Desktop application. It's that easy, you don't have to go looking for any additional programs.
