Sony selling Stowaway keyboards!
By: bookrats @ 05:59 PM
From PalmInfoCenter, it turns out that Sony is selling the Stowaway keyboard for most of the new Clie models -- rebranded as Sony.
Sony has it on the Sony Store page, but with no shipping date (but a price: $89).
Several questions come to mind:
- Is this the reason for the Stowaway support delay -- Sony wanted to get into the act?
- Will Think Outside be selling it, as well as Sony?
- If the latter, who to buy it from? (I'd prefer Think Outside, because any driver updates will propogate more swiftly from TO, I think.)

Or maybe Sony is what got it to market now instead of waiting for ThinkOutside/Targus to think it was worth their while.quote:

Do they currently sell the PPK, or does Palm sell these exclusively?quote:

I'm not sure if it would make a difference. ThinkOutside's drivers could be downloaded by anyone who bought it from either in the past (using the Targus Visor Stowaway as an example), so I can't see why that would change. I'm sure ThinkOutside is probably doing the software regardless of where you buy one.

Just got a note from the ThinkOutside people -- I'd asked to be notified when they'd have a Stowaway for the Clie:

The significant point is, I think, that ThinkOutside will NOT be selling the ThinkOutside keyboard from their own site -- it will be sold only from Sony.
That's OK by me. I'll go take a look at the Belkin, and if it's not up to snuff ergonomics-wise, I'll go order the Sony.

I hope this will be available from Amazon.com, because I'm getting a $50 gift certificate with a new 655. Yayyyy!

I just received my Sony keyboard for my NR-70. It is exactly the same as the Think Outside Stowaway for my Visor except for the connector itself, of course, and the color - the outside of the case is a metallic gray.
I'd forgotten how much I loved the Stowaway. I've been using the MicroInnovations "Pocketop" IR keyboard (which I reviewed on the board sometime ago), and it sucks compared to the Stowaway.
Belkin vs Stowaway

If anyone has had a chance to use both the new Belkin and the new Clie Stowaway keyboards, I'd love any comments comparing the feel of the two keyboards, and the capabilities of the software.

The NR-70's built in keyboard is bad enough that you'd pay for an external one?

They really don't compare. For writing a long document, it is SO MUCH BETTER to use a Stowaway.
Also, anyone see them in a brick-and-morter store yet?

They are designed for different useage.. the build in KB is ok, for short note, but for long stories a full size would be nice...
The KB on my PSION was a lot nicer than on my NR70V, but you have to make concesions somewhere...
