Just wondering, I have a 505 that will most likely go back to the store. I am probably going to get the Prism or Platinum.

I'm thinking that the Prism will be at $299 by 4Q of this year

hev you seen the color on the 505?

My boss proudly showed me his new 505 the other day.I kept looking, and wasn't sure it was really color. The screen is so dark that it was like watching a movie shot in some washed-out style - there's little hints of color, but mostly it's muted and moody. That may be OK in a movie, but do you really want it in your PDA?
I was embarrassed for him.

I've had a Visor Prism for six months now. I took a good look at a M505 in person the other day and didn't like it. Screen too dim and not enough new features to warrant me leaving my Prism. If both came devices came out at the same time, I would still buy the Prism.

I really love my Visor Prism it's still the best color Palm out!!! So I say go ahead and buy a one or two even.

Thumbs up

I bought a Prism two weeks ago, knowing that the 505 would be released any day. I haven't seen the Palm in stores yet, but I don't regret getting the Prism one bit, especially since I picked up an Eyemodule2. With modules like the EM2, I can't imagine switching to an m505 at this point, despite its ubercool form factor. My next module will be a 64MB MemPlug, which uses SmartMedia cards, but I'm sure it's only a short matter of time before an SD module becomes available to read the cards for the 505.

If size matters above all, go for the m505, otherwise get the Prism.

Just went down to the local Office Depot today to check out their PDA's. They had a working m505. I would have to say that although it may be a dim screen (causing me to squint) it is VERY sharp and the color is great (when you can see it). I really can't wait for my prism.

Have a Prism, played with the M505 at Office Depot. Didn't hate the latter as much as I thought I would (having read a lot of reviews), the screen was better than I expected - but not great.

If I had to do it over again, I'd still buy the Prism.

Question Problem with Prism viewability while outside

Saturday I was @ CompUSA picking up an ICU Power Accessory Kit for my wife's Visor Solo and I had the opportunity to speak to a customer about the many benefits of the Visor line as opposed to Palm's offerings.
Some llama working there actually had to check to see if the Prism came in graphite!

Anyhow, after successfully enlightening him to the Visor line, he decided to purchase a Prism. I got his email address to be a source of knowledge for him.

He emailed me about how he loved it, but could not see it outside... If he can't use it outside, he plans to give it to his wife and get a B&W model. I was wondering if any of you had suggestions as to how he may defeat that yellow ball in the sky when using his Prism outside?

Thanks.

Maybe build a shade that conforms to the Prism's screen and the user's face. Actualy, now that I think about it, that would be pretty cool. Make it fold down to think outside portable keyboard size. It would only work for video games though, since your stylus would be blocked. Then again, one could make a stylus swivel hole..... If anyone actually makes this, you owe me 2% of all sales

Talking

I love the NEWEST Sony Clie. On board MP3, nice size display, not that much bigger than the 505, plus the color is really vibrant.

The Clie is available in Japan. That's where I was. About two months ago to be exact.

No, I think it's a pretty rock-steady absolute that only a few color models are worth viewing outside: the new Palm M505, the Ipaq, and ... wasn't there another? (Is it the Sony?) All the others basically go black.

New Clie vs 505 screen is a tossup

I think the choice of Prism, 505 or Clie - if all you're considering is the screen - is a tossup. In addition to the 320x320 screen, the new Clie is like the 505 in that you can view it in sunlight. And it's got a much stronger sidelight than the 505 (although it's still not as bright as the backlit Prism.) I saw side by side photos of all three at some site - maybe spug.org? But the Clie is said (by everybody who has used it, although I have never seen anything official from Sony) to be 256 color vs 65k like the Prism and 505. So each one has advantages and disadvantages.
