I dunno who to write to for news item suggestions for the homepage but I think this is prety newsworthy. I just got it in my mailbox from the people at http://www.tt-tec.com/

Handspring selling ThumBoard; SnapNType ?

If you follow the link at Handspring you end up at ThumBoard. I am not sure that SnapNType has a separate link at Handspring.

What are the physical dimensions of the Snap-N-Go? The tt-tec web site is not very specific.
Also the press release implies that this product is available but I can't find where I can purchase this product. I am getting the feeling that this product and its specifications are not available yet because its simply not ready yet.

Got one from PalmGear yesterday. Played with it for maybe 5 mins. and
am impressed. Faster than graffiti and I'm fairly fast at graffiti.
I'm gonna play around some more tonight before I go to bed. Will let
you know tonight what I think after more time on it.

I got my SnapNType on Friday and unfortunately haven't had time to play with it a whole lot. Overall, I'd say it's pretty neat, though I like the keys on my Motorola Talkabout pager a lot better. It also could use a little more support in the middle (so it doesn't flex when typing on the middle keys.) Other than that, I like it a lot. I don't think it will replace my Stowaway on my belt, but it will definitely be kept handy.

I am, however, still looking forward to the ClipKee, especially v.2 with the 802.11b.

Here we go:

I like this keyboard! It is compact (just barely wider than the Visor)
and as thick, not as thick as a Prism. The Prism fits fine. There is
a removable section on the back that allows the Prism to slide in. I
leave this part at home. It sticks off of the bottom about 3/4".

It is a QWERTY keyboard with adequate spacing between keys (for the
confines given to work in) and the keys respond well with a slight
"click" when pressed. There is a power button between the four app
buttons on the bottom section. To type symbols, there is a symbol key
that must be pressed before pressing the key that contains the symbol.
For instance, the period is on the N key. You have to press
SYMB then N (both do not need to be pressed at the same time) to
produce the period. It supports moving forward/backward one letter
at a time and up/down one line at a time, plus a carriage return
identified as a graffiti carriage return stroke.

There is also a "Faceboard" screen that appears when you activate this
feature. It gives more symbols and a lot of emoticons. You have to use
your finger or stylus to select from this screen.

I am not quite up to my 55 wpm on this keyboard. Considering
I have had is for less than a week and have used it only to type
e-mails, I think I can easily reach 20-25 wpm. This will increase with
usage.

It works with Tinysheet and WordSmith, also. Basically anywhere text
can be input on the screen.

The only drawback I can see is there is no shortcut symbol. I wrote
the company about this and they said it is planned for the next driver
update in approx. 2 months. Driver...you have to open a program and
enable/disable the driver. If you use a modem, plug in the keyboard
first and enable the driver, then plug in your modem. If keyboard is
activated after a modem, it will not work.

Overall, well worth the money spent. Now I can carry my Prism, backup
module, Thinmodem and cable and a keyboard everywhere I go in the same
case that is on my belt! I just have to be careful when going to the
restroom!

Thanks for your comments on this. What's the removability like? And how sturdy do the physical connections appear? Between having to remove for hotsyncing and for changing or plugging in batteries, it would seem that it would have to be removed often enough.

I agree with Uncle Roger. Another draw-back I remembered is that (on
the Prism at least) I see where the paint is being rubbed from insert-
ing/removing the Prism. That will hurt in the long run.

Still, I like it and will definately keep it.

The back is open, well that's good to know. There's no hint of that from what I could see on the website. Anybody know if that's also the case with the Thumboard (or is it Thumbboard?)

ThumBoard covers battery in Deluxe

ThumBoard covers the battery on my Deluxe. You must remove the ThumBoard to sync and charge batteries (I use the lithium on my deluxe from eXtend Computing.)

Thanks MG, that's what I needed to know. I've got the FullCharge on my Platinum too, so access to the battery compartment is important.

Now I've got to find out about the new Kensington equivalent.

ThumBoard works with ThinModem!

I figured out how to make the ThumBoard work with ThinModem. It took a few steps, see http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...mp;pagenumber=1 steps to get it to work. I assume that the SnapNType will work the same way. I still like the number keys as opposed to shifting or function key for numbers.
