I've got a friend with a Plam III and he downloaded a free Palm OS emulator from 3Com that lets him try out Palm OS software before he installs it to his Palm. A nice way to see how well an app runs before you get it installed on your PDA.
Anyways, I downloaded the software the other night and you have to run a program on your Palm (Visor in my case) that copies the ROM image from your OS to your PC. The only problem is that the software requires you to specify a COM port to download. Since my Visor uses USB, I don't have a COM port assigned. My question is, has anyone with a serial cradle tried this and does it work for the Visor Deluxe?
You can also download an image from 3Com to use for development work, but as you can imagine, all of their ROM images are specific to Palm models.
May be something to experiment with. My friend said that I could have a copy of his ROM image but I am pretty sure there will be differences between the image for a Palm III and a VDx (different screen, more memory, faster, etc.)
Any thoughts???
