Well, I sold my Edge, what's next?

I finally got rid of the Edge, and just in time before the Sony announcement...Ahhh... I've always been known for great timing. But now I'm without a PDA and I really need one. I'm thinking about getting a Vx with Stowaway keyboard. It's basically the same thing but a $100 cheaper. What do you guys recommend? Maybe the S320?

Why is getting rid of your edge before Sony's announcement good timing if you're not going to get the Sony? I ask because the edge is better than either option you just mentioned. If you're looking at getting something to return when the Cli 415 is released, I'd get another edge. They seem to be able to last a month - and you get a good case for nothing.

whats next?? is i call you an egde sell-out
Well i dont get it if you call it good timing and your not gettting the sony why is it good timing. maybe cause you think the edge will lose its value your are wrong my friend.
cause i know handspring is coming out with a color edge with 32mb 640x640 res and it has magical powers.

You will miss your edge when you look at your pants and that bulge is not your package!!

This kills me. Dick, you had an absolutely execrable experience with the edge and yet you recommend it as better than a Vx for the short term. This is a joke, right. Sfhustler is going to have it for more than a month probably, and you guys are all out there in the edge forum saying that every edge is a time bomb. And now you recommend it over "reliable" units on the basis that an edge lasts a month. Give me a break.

You have it all wrong. I don't believe anyone ever said that every Edge was a time bomb. The problem is that there's no way to tell _which_ Edges are time bombs. Regardless, I'd get an Edge over a Vx too. "Why?" I'm sure you're asking yourself. Because there are known issues with the Palm Vxs as well. There's even a class action suit pending against Palm for it. The all metal case of the Vx combined with the not as shock-resistant serial connection (compared to USB) has been known to fry serial ports and sometimes even motherboards with static electricity. It's theorized by some that the combination serial/charging cradle contributes to the problem.

Sometimes I wonder if static electricity might not be causing the flaky Edge behavior that many have seen. It's certainly a more believable explanation than EMF interference from monitors.

HEY! That's a damn good thought! Any electricians out there who know just how touchy these digitizer components are?

No Toby, I got the point. Since no one can tell which Edges are problems, they all might as well be time bombs, so no one is recommended to purchase one. It accomplishes the same thing.

Very interesting thought in regards to the static electircity though. I suppose I am a walking experiment for that one, as my plant generates a lot of static in relatively frequent contact to people (we print plastic bread bags and the like -- winding up rolls of thin polyethylene generates quite the static field). My edge is exposed to a very unfriendly EM environment on a daily basis. had no trouble with my Visor deluxe, but I will have to monitor this closely to see what happens and when it does.

Ok fine i changed to another avatar.

WHy oh why do i have to change it so much?

I think the edge is like alll HS products. third times the charm! .
I went through three deluxe's before i got my edge.
If i had a choice at this very moment i would chose the RED EDGE! of all the pda's out right now.
just yesturday i had to run to get milk and pic up dinner and i was still in my workout clothes.
well no pockets.
so i had my edge and wallet in my hand
the damn thing is smaller than my wallet and can do more!!
I love my edge and only wish itt was 32mb. and maybe magical powers!!

For the short term it's been fine. Out of my 7 or so units, 5 lasted over 3 weeks. That would be enough time for the release of the Cli. Plus, flaky though it may be, it's USB, faster, more programs and system tweaks, with an expansion option.

Not if he's getting the cli. And if he's not getting the cli, why would he say that getting rid of his edge before its announcement was good timing?

That's exactly my point. The edge lasts long enough to get into a cli 415. Re-read the first post and tell me you get the impression he's looking for a permanent replacement. If he were, I'd tell him to get the wait for the cli or get an m500. I think a point can be made by returning an edge in favor of the competition.

The reason I said I have good timing is because I sold it right before the T415 came out, which happens to be the Edge's biggest competitor. The value of the Edge for SURE will drop. Think about it, next time your at CompUSA or BestBuy or GoodGuys, you see the Sony Clie T415, just released, nicer than the Edge, can hold up to 128mb of ram, and has a better display...Or you have the other option of the Handspring Visor Edge, which came out in April and is known for being buggy, with a screen that isn't as good. Sure the Edge has the springboard slot, but honestly, how many modules do you own? Do you know how damn bulky those things are? Nuff said. Peace.

Not really, because the main issue that _I_ have against recommending them is that Handspring doesn't seem interested in finding out what the problem is. If Handspring would be willing or able to find the problem and come up with some sort of fix, I might be more inclined to keep my Edge. The flaky hardware is only part of the issue. The seeming lack of commitment to the line is also a significant part.

I own 4. 2 of which fit flush with the visor. I really like the cli, but am loathe to lose current functionality.

About your "pda predicament," I'd go with the cli 415 when it comes out. Find something to use in the interim that you will return upon the release of the 415. I'd suggest an edge.
