Micro Center makes it's own computers and their Laptops are well received.

Can we call this board "Visor owners in DENIAL?"

I don't know if you are aware that CompUSA makes a lot of computer hardware and accessories. If you don't want to believe me, then go to your local CompUSA and open your eyes before you criticize on people.

Al

PS: and by the way, Amazon does't sound like hardware or anything they sell, it sounds like the forest or jungle. Again

CompUSA branded stuff is crap...You don't think they actually develop and manufacture that stuff, do you? They simply find some cheap crap and throw a CompUSA sticker on it. I once bought a CompUSA branded game controller...it came with drivers that didn't even support the # of buttons it had, it totally ignored the top four shoulder buttons.

They don't do any manufacturing anymore, but the old Compudyne lines were actually produced by them (well, as much as Gateway or any other clone maker anyway).

Here's a theory

I'll avoid the PalmGear flame, but instead propose a theory as to why no 2nd Generation MP3 players are on the horizon....

Napster.

With the problems that Napster's had, and that the bootleg MP3 market has dried up on the mainstream level (I'm sure there are underground MP3 bootleggers, but I have better ways to spend my time than hunt them down...), the mass market appeal of an MP3 player is greatly diminshed. Therefore, companies like Good have little to no incentive to develop a product that has virtually no market.

Just my $.02. Opinions?

Actually I disasgree. Somewhere (in PCMAG I think) I read that the demand for mp3 players is still growing, and they expect the amount of mp3 players bought will double this year.. Or somethign like that. But it was totally opposite demand fallling.

Morris has a good theory, but I think Miradu's probably right. I've got a SoundsGood, and while I confess to having used Napster in the past, the overwhelming majority of the MP3s I use on my SG were ripped from CDs I own.

I agree - the one thing holding me back from buying an mp3 player for my VDX is that it has to have some sort of added benefit over my rio500. I keep begging innogear and soundsgood to add the capability to read and write files to the 64MB of memory - at least if I could dedicate 8MB to use for backup or something!

I think I have to get a new MP3 player soon. I was leaning over to throw something away in the trash can near my desk when my leg hit the desk, one of my Star Wars action figure from the top shelf fell right onto my Rio 500 . Anyways...it seems to have pierced the LCD screen or something because a couple of the pixels looks like they ruptured, and the inky stuff came out. It wasn't that bad to start out with but every day I look at it, it looks like the inky stuff is spreading out to be a bigger and bigger spot .

As for MP3 not doing well because of Napster, how many people actually downloaded whole albums? I would download singles I heard on the radio & a lot of Dance Dance Revolution, but besides that, if I wanted a CD I'd go buy it. MP3 right now is still superior (IMOP) to MiniDiscs, its not going away. Plus memory prices are really bottoming out - SMCs for $34 is crazy.

Exclamation Audible Advisor

Anyone hear anything new on the Audible Advisor? (www.audibleadvisor.com).

This is much more up my alley - all's I'm looking for is something to play audiobooks. I only wish they'd beef it up a little more and put at least 32MB of memory in it - I don't want to resync my audiobooks every day!!

Napster is dead, but the trading of MP3s is still widespread via the gnutella network and applications such as Limewire. Some of the applications are arguably better than Napster was.

I'd argue that the reason for the slowdown (IF there is one) is that the record companies STILL have not sceded the fact that they need to look at electronic distribution as their format of the future.

I think the only thing that the demise of Napster did was to spread the use of file sharing from music to everything. All of these other programs (Limewire, Aimster, etc.) allow people to just as easily find programs, movies and documents as they could find music on Napster. Since the programs don't use one central server it will be a long time before these "enhanced Napster" programs go away, if ever.
