Mystery apps - won't work, won't go away

I've installed two applications of my Visor Edge -- namely, ThinAir and Yahoo!Mail -- and neither one works at all, nor shows up in the list of deleteable applications.

When I say "won't work" I mean nothing happens when I tap them. The name highlights and that's it. It's almost like they contain nothing more than a name and icon. Furthermore, when I select "delete" or "info" neither one shows up on the list of files installed on the Visor.

Is there a way that I can delete these files from a backup on my computer and use Hot Sync to delete them from the Visor? In fact, can this be done anyhow -- whether it solves this particular problem or not?

And finally, yes, I do have (working) Internet access via the Edge (in case anyone was going to point out that I would need that in order for these programs to work).

Thanks for any help and/or pointers.

Working internet access? Is that via a Springboard module that contains flash memory where the offending apps might be stored (as opposed to the Edge's RAM)?

I use the VisorPhone module for Internet access. I've powered off the phone since I installed them and they are still there (and useless) since then.

Looking around a little further, I notice that when I select info or delete, neither file shows up on the lists, however, when I do "category" they both _do_ show up. But, of course, I cannot do anything with them their (other than change their category).

Sounds like you've got some PQA's installed. Those require special libraries to be loaded in order to run. PQA's show up as icons in the launcher in OS 3.5+ but won't do anything without those libs.

OK, you very easily could be right, but why can't I delete them?

I think you have to Warm Reset, delete them in the launcher, then soft reset. Also, re-install any Handspring patches after that, because a Warm Reset deletes them

A warm reset delete's HS patches? AFAIK, it simply loads the OS without loading the patches, or any hacks; do a soft reset, and the patch is active again.

Deleteing phantom apps

Download the "Filez" program from Palmgear. It will locate all of the files on your edge (not just apps & a few others like the Launcher delete utility). It works more like a "Windows Explorer". YOu should be able to locate the offending files and delete them with this program.
