Angry Memplug problems

I finnaly got the Memplug MS (that took 2 weeks to ship) but unfortunatly Ive been having problems with it.

Everything is seeming to work ok, I registered Pidirect and thanks to my 128 mb memstick I have 128 mb of memory on my visor . The backup works great, I even tested it and it restored my visor exactly how it was before I did the hard reset to test.

The main problem is now is gmovie. I cant register it? The manual gives you a reg code and when I go to register it, it asks you for a name and reg code. So I put in my name and the reg code and click ok but all it does is just highlight the reg code and do nothing, very frustrating. Then when I try to convert movie files, it cant convert them and tells me I may need Quicktime 5 to convert and I have Quicktime 6. Also, is there a way to directly hotsync the movies or video clips directly to the memory stick instead of me having to first put them on my visor, which limits the movies to the max of 8 mb (since my Visor is 8 mb), and then having to transfer them to the memstick? I guess if not, ill need a pc memory stick reader (great another thing I have to buy).

The second problem is veiwing pics that I take with our sony digital camera. Are the Jpegs supposed to take about 30 secs to come up on the Visor prism screen? Or is it doing something wrong?

Thats about it, help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

Jonathan

I have the Memplug SM.

I am guessing that gMovie is probably no longer supported as gMovie II is available. I never found gMovie to be of any use, the sound was terrible on the Visor speaker. It was neat to look at a movie on my Visor, but after I did it once and thought "That's cool" I never did it again. Check the gMovie home page (address was somewhere in the documentation for the
program) to download Gmovie II. gMovie II is not free.

Yes you will probably want to have another reader for your computer for your memory sticks. I got an SM reader for free when I bought an SM card. My daughter bought an MS reader for less than $50 about a year ago. You may want to get one just to move your pictures from your camera. It should be at least a little faster than through the camera itself. It's a lot faster for me than directly downloading from my Olympus camera.

Your camera JPEGs are probably 250 or 500 kb depending on your camera's resolution. Yes it will take some time for your Visor to move that much data from any memory card to RAM where it can display it for you. Smaller JPEGs will take less time. At 15 - 30 kb transfer time is very short and will still take up the whole visor display with good appearance when shown.

I've been using Fireviewer to shrink my digital pictures and copy them to my card. It's an extra step, but I can store a whole lot more pictures on my card and display them faster. Fireviewer also has a zoom function on it's display so you can zoom in and out with larger JPEGs.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for all your info. Fortunatly I did register gmovie 2 and thats all ok except that I still havent successfully converted a mini movie myself and watched it on my visor. Like for an instance the sound wont come up and soemtimes when I put the movie in the card and then try to see it on my visor, ill get this list of blank titles and when you veiw them it brings up a blank screen casusing you to reset. Im calling support tomm when its open.

Ive had other issues but ill just get that solved with memplug support. My question for you is, how are you using fireveiwer to veiw pics on your memory card, then shrink them and copy them to the memory card? Thats basically what I want to know the most from you.

Also have you had the problem of sometimes when you insert the memory card, it will say "failed to initialize card, please reinsert, dont put it in pref-general form"? I then have to take it out, then reinsert it and it annoys the heck outta me.

If anyone else knows the solutions to my questions, please post them. Thanks a lot for your help.

Jonathan

Never had an error message on inserting or removing my Memplug or the Smartmedia cards. Got any hacks running on your Visor? Other than a possible conflict with a hack, I have no idea what might be going on. You might have some luck checking Memplug's web site for updates for your Memplug or FAQs for an answer.

To use Fireviewer, I upload all my pictures from my camera to my computer. Fireviewer has a program for the computer that lets you resize the pics and save them as Fireviewer files. You can save them to your hard drive or add them to your install tools list.
I save them to my hard drive and them copy them to my SM cards using an SM reader plugged into a USB slot. My computer recognizes the SM reader as another drive to read and write to. Fireviewer will read files directly from the card if you tell it to under the "options" menu item. The files have to be in the PALM\PROGRAMS\FIREVIEWER directory on my card for the Fireviewer program to find them.

Can't help you much with gMovie II. Make sure you have the latest version. Movies created with newer versions won't run right on older versions when viewed. There is a conflict involving sound on some SONY Clie devices. Check the FAQ on their web site.
