HotSyncing the OS Emulator

Can someone tell me the steps required to hotsync an emulator session? I set everything up the way the POSE User Guide says but I can't get the emulator to connect with the hotsync manager.

Below are instructions on how to setup the emulator on a PC running Windows.

Here's what you have to do. Open Hotsync and open the options menu. Open the "Modem Sync Prefs" and choose "Network." Open the options menu again, choose "LANSync Prefs" and choose "LANSync." Open the options menu again, choose "Primary PC setup" and enter your computer name or your IP address (if you don't have an IP address, you can use 127.0.0.1 which is your computers way of pointing at itself). Now, on the main hotsync screen, choose the "Modem" box and then click the box that says "Select Service" Don't worry about filling anything out, just hit "done."

Now right click the emulator, choose the "Settings" menu and click "Properties." Make sure that the option "Redirect NetLib calls to host TCP/IP" is checked.

Now the last step is to right click on the hotsync conduit in the task bar on your desktop and make sure the Network option is checked. If you get a message like

quote:
You have selected to perform HotSync operations via a network. No users are currently configured to use this PC as their primary PC. Please select a user fromt he Network tab within Setup

right click on the hotsync icon in the task bar and click setup, choose the network tab and put a check in the checkbox next to your palm userid. Make sure the Network choice is checked in the options of hotsync and then hit the hotsync button on the emulator. You should now be in business.

Hope this helps.

The other option, which I haven't done in a long time, but looks like it should still work is very easy (if you hae two serial ports on your computer).

Plug a null-modem cable between the two serial ports. Set the emulator to use one port and the HotSynch Manager to use the other. Select HotSynch from the Emulator menu r run the HotSynch app.

That's all.

I pondered long and hard as to where to place this... in the end, the fact that it's a "how-to" won out. Besdies, the emulator isn't just for developers...

Burns, I've done all that... several times. When I invoke HotSync from the emulator (by either tapping the button or selecting the HotSync option from the Emulator's pull down menu, nothing happens... eventually, after several minutes, it times out. (I've even tried resetting the emulator ).

bradhaak, I'll use the Com port option only as a last resort. It seems the network option should work (obviously, others have succeeded) so I'll give it another go.

Mark,
i don't blame you for not wanting to try the com port solution. It's really ugly, but it works great as a last resort.

See this Developer's Knowledge Base article. Jump down to the section "Configuring the Palm OS Emulator for Synchronization via Network Connection"

Doh!

RTFM!

It helps if you press the right button... I never thought to press the Modem Sync button...

Thanks, everyone...
