A really good one that got by a lot of people was O Brother Where Art Thou? It's the Odyssey adapted to the depression-era South. Great writing.

Has anyone watched Swordfish. I can't get any consistent word on it yet.

Yorick - nice bones!!

Oh wow... How long can I make this list? OK, I'll try to keep it down to some of my favorites. I like the following films for various reasons. Some are just great films, period, and others are listed purely for their entertainment value (mine).

  • A Star Is Born (all 3 versions)
  • Abyss
  • An Ideal Husband
  • Ben Hur (the 1959 version)
  • Blade
  • Bound
  • Brazil (the extended version, not that short happy-ending version)
  • A Bronx Tale
  • Charade (and all other Audrey Hepburn movies)
  • Citizen Kane
  • The Color Purple
  • Dangerous Beauty
  • Darkman
  • Dead Again
  • F/X
  • Fanny (and most other Leslie Caron movies)
  • A Fish Called Wanda
  • Forrest Gump ("Run, Forrest, run!" hee hee)
  • The Fugitive
  • Gattica
  • Goodbye Mr. Chips
  • Happy Texas
  • Highlander [the original one for Connor, and "Endgame" for Duncan (huba, huba!)]
  • Imitation of Life (both versions)
  • Laura (and all other Gene Tierney films)
  • The Matrix
  • The Mummy (the 1999 version)
  • Once Upon A Time when We Were Colored
  • One False Move
  • The Producers
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark (and all sequels)
  • Rebecca
  • The Red Shoes (the one with Moira Shearer)
  • RoboCop
  • The Runaway Bride
  • Shawshank Redemption
  • Silverado
  • Singin' In The Rain (and all other Gene Kelly movies)
  • Some Like It Hot
  • Star Wars (and all sequels/prequels)
  • Strange Days
  • Terminator (and all sequels)
  • The Usual Suspects
  • Unbreakable(my friends hated it, but I loved it)
  • What Women Want
  • While You Were Sleeping

A "favorite" to me is one that I can watch over and over and not be totally bored. There are a lot more, but I fear that if I listed more than what I already did, someone would reach through my PC and choke me to death. And how positive of a thread would it be then?

Braveheart
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Leonard Part 6
Rocketman
The Dirty Dozen
The Hunt for Red October
Glory
The Magnificent Seven
The Last Starfighter
Flight of the Navigator
Labyrinth
The Right Stuff
Major Payne
Wag the Dog
Several of the Bonds (I don't even acknowledge the fact that they used Timothy Dalton as Bond) and Star Treks
Did I mention Braveheart? (could have something to do with my Scot heritage.)

To those who disagree, I say "Ni" to you.

I can't believe it!

2001 A Space Odyssey

Isn't that enough? It's hard to believe that Kubrick did "Eyes Wide Shut" but without a doubt - 2001 was his best work, IMHO.

There's very few movies that I can watch more than once, so my list is a little short:

Blues Brothers
The Fifth Element
Singles
Any film directed by Terry Gilliam
Any movie starring Natasha Lyonne, Christina Ricci, or Nicolas Cage (with the exception of Face Off and that one where he escapes from a prison plane!)
Any Jackie Chan movie BEFORE he came to the US.
Any Jet Li movie.
