Remember the mini-Visor?

Does anyone remember that a 'company' was developing this 'thing' that would go into the springboard slot and have a little screen and keep your contacts, notes etc. but no input? I actually have a use for something smaller and less expensive than my prism to take hiking, climbing, etc. w/o worring too much about loss or breakage. Anyone remember the name or company of that thing? Or did I dream all of it ?

I cannot remember the name of the product but I was very keen to purchase it if it came to market. I think it was being developed by a French company. Obviously, nothing came of it though.

I believe it was a version of the Rolodex Rex. Last I heard, the project was canceled.

Well,
There is that new watch out that syncs with your visor. You can find it on the front page of visor central under the topic "Is that a PDA on your Wrist". It cost about $150 though. It syncs with your appointments, to-do's, contacts....... and I believe that is it though. If you don't mind spending the money it will definitely do the job, not to mention you don't have to worry about breaking it. It's rugged plus you can keep it on your wrist.

YES, that's exactly what I was talking about. But, when I translated it, it said that they are not sure if Citizen would ever market it. The date of the article is 6-9-00, so maybe if it was going to come out it would have already. So how much does a rex cost, and does anyone own one?

You can check out my site (at the bottom of the page) to find out what happened to the Citizen. If you don't won't to, here's the short version:

It won't be marketed as a springboard slot. It is it's own little PDA called the Citizen Dataslim. It works as a CDMCI (or whatever those little laptop cards are).

For pictures of this new card PDA, you'll have to visit my site because I don't remember where the pictures came from and I can't post mine here because they're on geocities.

Citizen Kid is the coolest module I've ever seen! How nifty is that! Although I can see why they might not want to market it - it would be difficult to make a decent buck on it.

The Rex has a dirt cheap version - something like $60 at Target that you can probably find a way to sync with the Palm Desktop. I thought about it for those times you want your contacts and dateboook handy, but can't carry the visor...

what about the risk PDA

Have you considered using the at all? If you are willing to spend $149 I think it is well worth it. Here's a the VisorCentral's link for their article on it. Is that a PDA on Your Wrist? Check it out and tell me what you all think. It bascily does everything the Citizen kid does except it's a watch and it syncs with your visor via infra red.

Xircom Rex 6000

I bought a Xircom Rex 6000 online (can't remember where, but an online discounter) for under $75 complete with USB hotsync cradle. It comes with a CD with its own version of Intellisync. Under Win98 (at home) and Win2000 (at work), I sync my Visor Deluxe with Windows, then sync my Rex. Viola! All my stuff is transferred. It comes with a little leather case (with protective steel plate). There's an active development community that has produced good versions of Mines, Tetris, Solitaire, Space Invaders, Sokoban, etc., as well as some keen utilities. It will even sync up limited Web content. The online support forum is at www.rex6000.org. I am VERY happy with mine. I keep my driver's license and a credit card in the case and it's all I need to carry with me. I leave my Visor home most days.
DISCLAIMER: I owned an original Rex and always loved it, too, so I'm probably prejudiced.

Have you considered the Casio DataBank watch. They have a model that transfers appointments, contacts, memos, and todos via IR directly to/from the visor. You can even enter/modify information on the watch (but the process is rather cumbersome).

It is available NOW, and works well. I found mine for a good price on ebay.

I owned the Casio Databank when it first came out - which is why I'm a bit hesitant about the new "power watch."

The Fossil Watch sounds pretty cool because it can hotsync directly with the visor and it has a ton more features.

I also owned the pager watch when it first came out (remember those things!) That was pretty nifty - always on the right timezone, received pages, got news and weather right on my watch.

The thing is - I've moved to a traditional analog watch (gasp!). It's just aesthetics to me now - a man's watch is the only jewlery we get to wear! I'd rather carry my toys in my pockets.

In fact - I loved my Casio Databank so much - I converted it into a keychain. I was very vocal to casio about making a keychain version - it would've been so easy - but they never listened. Their loss - there's a company out there that makes the exact same thing for $20 - on a keychain - sync's through your monitor and all that - saw it at Target - in the kids stationary section - amazing...
