The damn monkey is back. I'm on a new Powermac G4 with 192 Mbs of Ram.

Whenever that monkey or other java ad pops up on this site, my ENTIRE system freezes for about a minute. Do the Java ads really add that much revenue to the site? If so, than so be it.

It's just damn annoying.

Only 300% more than when they dont have them. I just deal with it since i learned it was that much.

300%?

Wow. Yea...I guess I can live with it if it is paying for the site. It still sucks, though. Hopefully Visor Central will start attracting some better advertisors than punching monkeys!

Or the flashing "Winner!" ad. that one gives me a bad headache.

Bingo! So thats what causing the visorcentral pages to take 2 minutes or more to load on a dsl connection.

I can't believe these marketing people. Instead of making ads that peopple will like and click, they are making and using ads that annoys and make people sick. Go figure!

You can turn Java off - in Netscape go to Preferences / Advanced and uncheck Enable Java.

You can also use a browser accelerator like Naviscope (www.naviscope.com) to block ads and/or kill java on certain sites.

Although I appreciate Internet ads because they make the content free, I agree that Java ads are rude, buggy and shouldn't be allowed on high-end sites such as this.

And the monkey has to go!

We are currently working hard setting up a local ad system - with no java banners!

Thanks,

Marcus

I went to the monkey's website and clicked until I won a stuffed monkey. Once I receive it (within 90! days) maybe I'll have a contest for it based on what you'd do to it .

There is a new (non-Java) ad on par with the flashing "Winner!" ad. An alternating blue and red flashing "warning" message about my travel vacations not being optimized. Who comes up with these things?

Cheap oversees ad agencies that produce work by locking monkeys in a room with clip art and punching them until the produce horrific, flashing, seizure-inducing "ads."

That's just at theory...

Thanks for the tip on turning Java off. It seems to work pretty much the same way in Internet Explorer. Anyhow, I've turned it off! Cool!

Question

I think the banner ad "Do you want this banner to go away" is one of the most stupid banner ads I've ever seen. Even if you click on the "yes" button, you are transferred to the advertiser's website - surprise!!!
Compared to that, our legendary 'masochistic monkey' is really cool.
But I won't complain too much about the ads, because without them VC wouldn't be a free site.

Later,

mc9

Ok, the monkey is stupid, but the flashing ad on the VisorCentral opening page is about to send me into epileptic seizures. I just know one day my coworkers will find me twitching uncontrollably on the floor, unable to shutdown my browser.
