I was in CompUSA over lunch (desperately looking for replacement stylus and additional USB cradle via retail) and witnessed another customer trying to extoll the virtues of the Visor to someone looking at the Palms. My perception of the situation was that the Visor owner was a bit too intense and I think he scared the other guy away. This reminds me of people in the Linux community who unintentionally scare people away with their overzealousness.

Don't get me wrong, I try myself to nudge people in the direction of the Visor. But, you can't come across too strongly especially when talking to obvious nontechnical types. You'll scare them away, and none of us wants to do that.

I was in Staples and saw a person browsing through the pda's (they still don't have a display of the Visor up...) and wanted badly to walk over and whip out my visor and begin the sales pitch... but I refrained...

It's very tempting to share the enthusiasm.

When I was at Staples, I saw a guy wanting to buy a pda. All the benefit that the sales person said for buying a visor delux was the more memory and you get a REALLY nice leather slip case. I don't like that slip case at all. First it doesn't fit then it's too tight. The guy ended up buying a palm IIIxe.

Wink

Nobody has to be very zealous, much less overzealous about the Visor. Anybody just has to see it for a few minutes to see what a great product it is.

It sells itself.

A friend of mine just got one last week. I like the kickback idea!

Cool

I was in Best Buy today, to see what modules that they may have for my Visor (I ended up buying the 8MB Flash). Anyway, there was a customer wanting to buy a Pilot, but she noticed me with my Visor. Well, to make a long story short, she changed her mind and bought the Visor... with a huge smile on her face. It was great, I was there at least an extra hour, talking to other customers and beaming apps back and forth... it was "Visor Utopia!" I'm stoked whenever I can show people the power & versatility of the Visor, for half the price of a Pilot, and they end up making the choice for Visor.

Angry

Went to compUSA just to see what modules they had, and there were 2 people waiting to look at the pda's. We all waited for about 20 min for anyone to come back to talk to us about any of the merchandise. When the sale person finally arrived, I could not beleive what he told these people... After they asked me a million questions about my visor, and looked at many apps... The sales person said "yeah that visor is just a copy of the palm, but with more memory, they have a few modules out now, but don't expect to be able to buy modules or any units in stores soon because they have a big fat lawsuit aginst them and we (compusa staff) feel that they will not be in business long!!! He did admit that it was better than the palm though. The two people did buy Visor's anyway (after asking me a BUNCH more questions) but I just could not beleive what he said.
So what is with this lawsuit if anything?? Also why do the sales people at many retail stores seem to be down on visor? or is it just my dumb luck to keep running in to these people?? Thanks Frank

Frank,

The only lawsuit that I've heard of is between Xerox and Palm regarding copyright or licensing (sorry, I can't remember which just now) for Graffiti.

It's a good thing that you were there to correct the misinformed miscreant of a "sales" person.

Your discussion of the shabby treatment that Visors recieve at the retail stores reminds me of the travails I go through being a Mac user in a PC world . . . . it's not easy being out of sync with the masses (and not easy being green either according to Kermit!)

Amen, brother. I cut my teeth programming a Mac Classic (back when you had to cross-compile on a Lisa), and I still maintain that the MacOS is superior to Windows.
I maintain my out-of-synch-hood in other ways too. I program my Visor with Quartus Forth, when it seems that the rest of the world uses C++.

And of course my Visor is Green!

Argh, I'm falling behind.
I got two people in my office to buy one, and one who is going to ask for a visor for his birthday. The latter fellow was convinced when I told him about the IntelliGolf module.

Alas, there are about three others in my office who would love to have Visors, but find even the reasonable Visor price to be a bit outside of their budgets.

I'm feeling good. I can count 5 people who have bought Visor's after seeing mine and 3 more seriously considering it.

Still the only green one in the office though :-)

Talk about second-class citizens, Mac users who own Visors are gluttons for punishment. Hear about a cool app for the Palm OS? Ooops! it doesn't work for the Mac. I go into a CompUSA and I get twice as much ****ty service!

I've got you rookies beat ...I count 11 Visors sold after my rantings, not counting sub-sales as a result of those 11 selling to others. Man, too bad this isn't Amway!

Now if we count Palm's in the mix...("sold" before the advent of the Visor.)

My husband and I bought Visors for each other for Christmas -- then one for our daughter, who in turn bought one for her husband. Their almost two-year-old daughter can say "Gramma's Visor", "Mommy's Visor" and so on! We're starting them YOUNG in our family!

Pity there is no child-proof visors on the market. Maybe Fisher Price can make a deal with Handspring

I guess I was a little to forward when I told my boss how my Visor Deluxe could run circles around his palm. He took out the credit card and ordered 9 of them.

I'm crossing my fingers and hope everyone loves their new Visor as much as I do.......
