Question Smart media card and mem plug

Is this going to work? I have a prism now. I want to get a mem plug to use with my 128 mb smart media card. Will I be able to down load applicatitonas such as the unabrideged websters dictionary and thesaurus on to the smart media card. I also want to be able to put all down loads on it. Will this work? Forgive me for sounding so stupid but I am new to hanspring ( Only since December 26th) and I am not sure how this works and I don't want to buy the mem plug thing for nothing. I use my prism for taking notes and writing papers while I am in between classes at school so I really need the dictionary. I was going to by the springboard dictionary but I think I would rather get the big one on the smart media card because I doubt that the sociology words I need to look up will be on the spring board module dictionary one. WIll the 128 mb one be to big or will I need to buy a smaller card? ANy ideas would be appreciated Thanks Debbie

You might want to go check out Launchplug. It seems to be a fairly comprehensive site that has all sorts of tidbits on what you can and can't do with the Memplug.

I've been reading it a fair bit in anticipation of finally getting a SM memplug.

In theory, this will work- however it will depend on which files you are going to use. If you are going to use one or two huge files, you will probably need to use a card reader to transfer the information from your desktop computer to the MS card. (A card reader is like a disk drive for various format of cards. They are pretty easy to find- eBay, newegg.com, most electronics stores, VisorCentral's marketplace, etc.)

The problem with big files is that if they are biger than the free space you have, you cannot sync them to your Prism, then move them to the SM card.

I also want to be able to put all down loads on it. Will this work?

Try Launchplug.com as mentioned above. You can run a lot of stuff off your SM cards- but depending on how you do it, it will slow you down.

For example, if you put a lot of stuff on 'Launcher', then the Prism scans it all the time, delaying other activities. Using a 'speed up' program like Cruise Control helps, but there are other strategies as well.

What I do is to park a lot of applications that I may want, but rarely use on the MemPlug, then load them back and forth manually. The more often I use the application, the more likely I am to move it to either Launcher or PIDirect.

I have a san disk

I have a san disk reader. Will this work to read the card. I am totally confused. I guess I have to wait untill I have the mem plug to be able to figure it all out. I went to the page mentioned above and it helped some, when the mem plug comes I will go there and try it step by step. Thanks for your help. Would I be better of using a smaller smart media card? I have a couple of them, I use them in my olympus digital camera. Mainly the big files I would like to put on it and still be able to use are the e pocrates drug program and the websters unabridged dictionary and a thesaurus for now. and maybe word smith. Your help is appreciated thanks Debbie

Don't worry, you will be fine with your new Smartmedia card and the Memplug. Just be sure to register "Pidirect" to take full advantage of it. I have a 12MB Encyclopedia in my SM card, as well as over 30 MB of files. They all appear to the Visor as if they exist in RAM. PiDirect & then Memplug are some of the finest products I have seen for any PDA.

Just copy your large dictionaries to the \palm\pidirect directory on your SM card, plug it in, and enable PiDirect. All of the programs will work great.

Doug
