umm...
(he says, replacing carefully the shattered pieces of his visor's heart and ego).
maybe you should ask the same question of marcus (i.e.: why is it an orange visor in all of the button gifs?)
maybe you should ask donna and jeff why they built it in the first place.
ask macintosh why blue and orange were the original colors for the [portable] ibook.
maybe you should look deep into your soul and ask why you didn't let your inner child have an orange visor. this perhaps will help you deal with the harshness of your view toward these helpless, inanimate objects that must bear the brunt of your rage and confusion.
maybe you should take a look at the ad, (or the many other 3rd party ads that use visors - they're out there, you've seen 'em) and ask yourself why you're so entranced by the sheer, simple beauty of it.
in a word, the answer to all of these questions is...
aesthetics.
it just looks better than a boring old graphite one. especially for a display involving food - a food for which presentation is as important as taste or quality.
it is also distinctive. no one else makes an orange pda. perhaps avantgo and handspring have entered into a partnership for these ads ("visor" and the handspring logo are quite prominent on the device in the ad).
orange visors, tho' perhaps the least popular in the consumer base (anyone seen that visor received log lately - or the color poll?), seem to be be the most popular among the advertising base. i think its a matter of stand-out appeal, and just plain looks.
but maybe that's me. i'm proud of my orange visor. it never fails to get a response from anyone who sees it (and the response 99% of the time is how much cooler it is than the average black or grey palm, in case you're wondering). and it works. for me, and the advertisers. and, most importantly, it makes me happy: it brightens my day rather than darkening it. it's arefreshing color rather than a gloomy one, it doesn't make want to scream at other, unsuspecting pdas, who for want of pretty colors have enough problems already.
my $.02. maybe $.03.
