Well if your gonna try to recieve email on your visor good luck. You could always buy a GSM phone with a IR modem and all that mess but why bother. I just got back from Italy a couple days ago. There are hundreds of Internet cafe's over there. There's even one in the Termini train station in Rome. Once you get off the train from the airport in Termini station(I'm assuming this is probably where you will first go) just look for a Telecom Italia place in the station, its like 5 bucks for an hour. But there are internet shops all over the place, not just Rome, but Florence and Venice too. Just look around or ask the locals.

I did take my Visor over there, used it for directions to places to stay and train information. Its really nice to download some reading material to for the long train rides.

Anyways, if you need any info on Italy, like cheap places to stay and things to do, email me at [email protected].

Cool It worked in Ireland

I picked up e-mail from several e-mail accounts (including my mindspring one) last summer when we were in Ireland. I would expect it to be just about as easy in Italy.

My biggest problem was figuring out the best phone number to dial to get on the ISP. That you would have to figure out between you and the ISP.

I used Multimail and both the Thincom Thinmodem and the Handspring Modem. Multimail comes with the Thincom modems in a trial version. I liked it enough that I splurged for the full version.

I had the same questions in advance of a Christmas trip to France, and here's the thread link:

Everything worked like a charm. Oh - I got a SpringPort modem because of its speed and ability to discern digital (?) landlines, which I gather can really screw up American modems.

One big suggestion - Work everything out with your ISP before you leave. Get your access numbers for the cities you're visiting. And - most importantly - know the international access charges before you leave! I didn't think to ask and returned to a $50+ bill on my monthly account fee.

Enjoy your trip!
