yep, I received one by priority mail today (Saturday).

The unit sticks above the visor about 1/4" and projects out the back about 3/16" (making it impossible to use a E & B slipper visor case- drat). The lower half of the back is the speaker. The top of the unit has a microphone (a small raised-hole in the top center), an external mic port and a earphone port.

It comes with a little battery pack unit (and two AAA batteries) so you can use the recorder independent of the visor.

The interface on the visor is easy to use and I inserted and re-inserted it a couple times with no ill effects - no need to reset....

How come 3/8" "overage" stops us of the Slipper cover? Mine Slipper cover still snaps closed when I allow that much clearance.

Want this module but hate to give up my Slipper for it.

How would you all assess its performance in a large lecture room setting - in other words, how sensitive is the mic?

Is there a compensation in sound quality in order to record up to 1.5 hrs?

Is there a "loop" feature?

What type of sound file is the recording as?

Any disappointments so far?

In answer to questions

according to desktop software:
Voice Files are stored as *.wav files so that they can be played by any Windows PC.

The mic appears to be pretty senstive, product addendum also mentions that you can buy a special external mic for the unit ("Handheld Recorder Microphone by Telex Model: M-10)

I think 1.5 hours is based on normal recording function, I haven't noticed anything about file compression....yet

The slipper visor case (E & B cases) doesn't work because the hard part of the flip cover does not clear the module.

Unit attached to battery pack is pretty cool-looking and small, buttons are nice, but wish it could delete files independent of visor.....

Question

cool. hey, some ??s...

did you get the alarm to work thru the spkr?

further to this, can you make other visor sounds thru the module spkr, like metronomes, game sounds?

is the speaker very loud? usable for play back anywhere besides in silence?

what kind of interface allows you to upload recordings from the visor to yr desktop?

have fun! i'm envious. maybe for xmas??

Okay in response to recording time versus quality heres the scoop:

Best - 32 kbps ADPCM - 15 minutes
Medium - 6.8 kbps CELP - 1 hour 15 minutes
Low - 5.4 kbps CELP - 1 hour and 30 minuts

in stand alone mode (with external battery pack) all messages are recording in best quality with voice activation on

So far as I know, the speaker and voice functions cannot be used by other visor apps apps

well if it's true that the module speaker doesn't support other visor noises, eg games sounds, alarms, etc, are there any of you technically inclined types that could write a patch or hack or something that would allow it to do this?? makes all the difference for me... thanks...

Play recordings with other apps running?

Does it play or record while other apps are in use? It would be really cool to be working with TakeNote in my stowaway while listening to a recording.

more responses, no I don't think it can run in the background while another app is on...however, you could listen to sound with the unit running on its battery pack. The speaker is pretty loud, although the earphones would be alot better in a crowd.

It comes with its own desktop software which allows you to manipulate sound files on your pc (or mac...if your one of those aesthetic types). I have not played with this yet...

To Mr Suicide:

yes you can append messages (add more to an existing message)

yes you can rewind and fast forward within messages both in stand-alone mode and when its in the visor...

To Intysoft:
it didn't come with any hacks for alarms, but I'd love it if it existed....
