Question

Frequently, when an alarm goes off from my datebook, I hear 2 alarms. It doesn't happen every time, but enough to be really really annoying.

I'm pretty sure this is because both datebook and datebook+ sees the same entry and each plays their respectable alarms. When I get the double alarm, the regular datebook always comes first.

I installed datebkstub.prc from pimlico, which masks out the regular datebook. I was hoping this would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

Does anyone know a way to stop this extremely annoying problem?

-Chris

I am using Datebook 3 (a more powerful version of Datebook+ which I was using on my Palm III) and was having the same problem. Datebook 3 provides a small program called "datebkStub" which masks Datebook+ from RAM and stops the double alarms. I don't know if a similar program is available for your particular problem.

I suspect the problem is a time check issue. Many programs that check alarms only check to the nearest minute. I had the alarm and reminder set to 2 different sounds in DB+ and got both sounds (usually). I think what is happening is that the program wakes up at the alarm time, but the whole minute rounding issue makes it think that 1 minute has passed (you haven't acknowledged the alarm yet) so the reminder goes off too.

I have the same problem and am running Datebk3. Where do I get the Datebook masking program?

There are 2 "stub" applications available.

One, called DtbkPlusStub.prc, is available directly from Pimlico's website ( www.gorilla-haven.org/pimlico/handspring.htm
). Note: do not download with Netscape, it will freeze the Visor and you'll need to hard reset - download with IE works!

This didn't do what I wanted, it masked out datebook+, which is what I want to use.

There is a datebkstub.prc available, mentioned at http://www.gorilla-haven.org/pimlico/datebk3faq.htm. I emailed them and requested this. I installed it, and it does mask out the regular datebook, but I still get the double alarms.

I'm not running datebk3. I'm sure the alarms must come from the datebook and datebook+ apps, because when I get the double alarms, the first one is the alarm sound, which is what datebook is set to (by default). All the datebook+ alarms are set to concerto (which is the second of the double alarms.

Mine does this sometimes too, and I remember the original author of Datebk3 (wrote Datebook+) and apparantly if HotSync and then do not go to the DB+ before your next alarm you will get the double alarm.

Just think of it as an extra "feature" to make sure you heard the alarm

From my little experiments. I've come to the conclusion that appointments that were synchronized from Outlook which had a reminder set, prompted the double alarm. But the appointments that I entered on the Visor directly only sounded a single alarm!
I've also installed DateBk3.

Thanx for all the replies. However, I don't have datebook3 installed and I don't use Outlook. And all my entries are made directly into the Visor. And I know I have gotten the double alarms at time when I have been in datebook+ after hotsyncing and before the alarm goes off.

It looks like I'm just going to have to live with the "feature" (I guess they are taking development lessons from Bill Gates), even though I find it extremely annoying.

If anyone does come up with a solution, please don't hesitate to post it. Thanx,

-Chris
