A Simple Statement of Fact

While the handheld world gets bigger, more expensive (or cheaper but useless), and more complicated, the happier I am with my Neo.

The Visor Neo is still the best value as an ebook reader.

If a trade-off for a somewhat better screen (i.e. color) means rechargeable batteries
...and...
twice the cost

of the Neo - which reads pretty well as is, the AAA's last and can be quick changed ...
well... I'll pass.

Make sense?

Christmas is Coming

Get yerself a handful of NiMh 700mAh AAA batteries (don't settle for 600 or 650 mAh) and a recharger and you will be even happier.

Uh-oh...

"a handful of NiMh 700mAh AAA batteries (don't settle for 600 or 650 mAh) and a recharger and you will be even happier."

two questions:

1. Will my Neo be even happier? (Rechargeable batteries really messed up my old Deluxe - only tried it once but it was enough to say forget it. Had to do a hard reset. Giant pain.)

2. Where on-line can I get info. and purchase? Have never had any success with battery rechargers over the years. Don't know if its me, the technology, the brand, some of the above or all of the above.

Will stay open to being "even happier".

yeah, but the grave is being dug.

The Neo is the perfect blend of expandability, ledgebility, power and ease of use. I hope mine doesn't die soon...

I want to stay away from NiMH/NiCd due to the quick dropoff. What's your experience with rechargeable alkalines?

I've used rechargeable alkaline with great sucess--I know they don't hold up to as many cycles as Nimm and they're a bit more expensive--Though obviously much cheaper than non-rechargeables--

I've gotten a couple of years out of the Ray O Vac (s)(rechargeable alkalines) and had no problems with no changes in the power settings--

I like them and have saved quite a bit of money--

I know with the right batteries and power settings--the Nimm can work out well too--

Once you reset the battery meter to Nimh on Visors running Palm OS 3.5, or to NiCad on the VDX there is no appreciable drop off in performance. My 700mAh NiMhs provide close to the performance of a premium grade alkaline. I have used NiMh in both my VDX and my VPL and would nver consider going back.

You can pick up 600mAh AAA NiMhs at Radio Shack, or source 700 mAh NiMhs online...I got mine through eBay. Just crank in 700mAh is see what pops up.
